no stranger to returns here, I would guess I`ve had my share of them, maybe 20 a year, 300 lifetime total.
some background 1st
I was in HFR years ago, just something ebay would like me to do,as in hassle free returns
I have checked all the boxes, followed all the recommendations, jumped thru every single hoop possible.
ebay wants you to just roll over, that works fine for me.I can be a good doggy and follow all commands
last night I got another return request, within 2 seconds of me glancing at the email,I knew something was up.
called up ebay, gave them the auction number of item sold in the return
he looked at it and asked me how he could help me,
I was fit to be tied, told him your system is just broken down **bleep**
not my exact words but I am sure you get the picture
CSR, how can I help you
I told him that I do not do returns...…………………………………….I said to him" you do"
I asked him nicely why am I required to respond,I said that's what ebay is for ,they need to get with the program
CSR, I can help you with the next step
I said the next step is not for me to be taking
I know how to respond, why do I have to
I am in free returns
30 days
every hoop has been jumped thru just like a good litte boy
this is supposed to be all automated
why do I even have a choice
CSR, well you can fight it if you want
I don't want to fight it
I don't want to have to do anything at all
I said there is no way I can win this, why would I want to even try
I told him the response from ebay is supposed to be instant approval, time for the buyer to print the return label that ebay is supposed to send him.
I don't do labels, ebay does and was supposed to send him one instantly
ebay wants a seemless approach to cut down on the timeline of the return, supposed to be instant
well it wasnt

This sounds more like a technical issue than a problem with eBay policy. I've had a few returns that should have been automated show up needing a response, but it's more of a fluke than a regular occurrence.

its definitely some sort of issue to say the least
I know for a fact that when I look at my emails that I am so used to seeing this,
"a return has been automatically approved for you" ...........this is exactly what I like to happen
I have not really had to respond lately and was very surprised at the long list of choices I could make

I was in the site preferences yesterday and noticed some changes. You might want to look too. Returns now has its own section where all of the settings needed to be reset for automatic returns. The error you are frustrated with may have a solution there to be found. Hope it is that easy for you. 🙂
Good luck ~ Wanda

Would it still be technically an issue if the return request shows up not automated because the buyer uploaded photos and asked questions needling a response?

I get what you are saying but the returns process is for returns
I has a guy contact me one time thru return sytems just to ask me a question
it did not bother me because I could tell that some people just do not know how to contact is made,
I will have to look at my preferences but I can not really see ebay changing them on me, IE pushing me out of a program that ebay so desperately wants people in
