That's because those sellers are not very smart.

I ship CDS/DVDs and offer free shipping with media mail. I also use Ground Advantage which can be a few cents cheaper depending on what zone the package is being shipped to.
I incorporate the cost of shipping plus seller fees into the price of the item.

Sorry my "not to smart" comment wasn't directed to sellers who sell DVDs with free shipping.
Nothing wrong with that.
It was directed towards sellers who lose money when the sale price doesn't even cover the shipping cost.
And I see that a lot.

blima,
I will only cover this yr., although I sold my first DVD on e-Bay 20 yrs. ago.
The ONLY way, of which I have any knowledge, is to list the items as "disc only" and sell without tracking as non-machinable product. That will reduce your shipping by approx. 2/3rds. As that could affect your rating, consider a second account for that specific purpose. I am strongly considering this method of liquidation, as, in my opinion, few buyers would trouble themselves to scam a seller over 3 or 4 dollars.
In closing, I am age 80 and use e-Bay as a liquidation platform. Were I 40 and strictly profit oriented, I would not touch most DVDs, as the marketplace is flooded with people dumping their discs for streaming. There is still a chance to profit, but the work:effort ratio is not favorable, as it would require considerable experience.

No worries my friend.

I have also noticed that some sellers set a minimum order size that might be as high af 5 DVDs. That brings down the per-unit shipping cost. Otherwise, when they specify case included, I don't see how it would not lose money.
I recently helped liquidate a few thousand DVD collection. Selling to video/music stores, we did not receive any offers of $1 a disc or more. I noticed they were able to resell some on Ebay at a high price, but that requires going through the collection to find the valuable stuff.

Media "megasellers" get a cheaper Media Mail "presort" rate, which us smaller sellers do not have access to. Some will also stuff their packages with ads that they are paid to put in there, an additional revenue stream for them. If the media megaseller is also a "charity" they get additional benefits like cheap/free/subsidized labor, free inventory and significantly reduced eBay fees.
