I purchased headphones from a seller claiming to be in the USA. Several things have occured. Seller has setup a shipper located in Las Vegas who ships the sellers items for him.
Since the headphones do not work at all, I filed a return request that was accepted by the seller who appears to be in China. The seller does not answer any of my e-mails sent through the ebay system that ask for a return shipping address where I can return the product. Now listen to this! At the bottom of the return item page where the return address is always found, there is an address that is shown that is in Chinese charictors. Since seller claims not to be able to send me a prepaid shipping label, Ebay has asked me to pay for the post, and then ebay will ask the seller to refund to me the cost of shipping. I can't read Chinese. Here is the real horror. Since I can't read the shipping address in Chinese, I can't return the parcel within the alloted time to get a refund. In otherwords, this is a loophole in their system. On the 9th of this month my falure to return the product will result in me losing all of my money. Nowhere in the ebay system is there a way to ask ebay to step to help me.
My congratulations to my Chinese friend who apparently never has to issue refunds for defective products. Come-on Ebay lets get a handle on this as I am not too happy with losing $41.00 on a defective headphone product. Please note that the only valid address I have is from the person in Las Vegas who sent me the headphones and has recorded it on the mailing envelope. Problem is, if I send it back to the Las Vegas, they may say that the Vegas address is not the return address. Pretty cool huh? The seller in China has not reeponded to 4 emails of mine asking for a valid address. Does this sound like the perfect crime to you? It does to me. Ebay should fix this immediately and reward me bringing this to their attention. Ha Ha.

You have fallen victim to a drop-seller from another country.
The address where the item was shipped is where it should be returned but eBays and PayPals systems are set up to the sellers address.
I have no advise as calling CC has never ended well for me.
Maybe talking to a supervisor as the Add was fraudulent
The seller should send a return shipping label with the drop-shippers address.
You may just be out the money.
Please leave the proper feedback.

Thank you for your reply.
You are correct in stating that this cannot turn out too well. Shortly after posting this, The seller (In China) like magic, emailed his adress in China to me. This is no help since there is no documentation to identify my user id and return request has any connection to the package they will receive. Looks like they not only will keep the $41.00 dollars but will get their earphone back. So, unless ebay works this problem out I don't see any hope for getting a refund. Truly a win win situation for the seller. So I'm more or less forced to at least keep the headphones. If they authorzed the return to the Las Vegas address the parcel was shipped from, then the situation would look a little more encouraging. Can you begin to see how dishonest this seller is? Seems to be doing all he can now just to get the headphone back. He will resell to another buyer after making repairs. Believe it or not, these guys repair everything. I whitnessed this in Taiwan when a repaiman was called. Then in about 10 minuetes as I waited, this guy shows up on a bycycle and a tool pouch, sits down and repairs the watch I was tryhing to buy. unbelievable!

There is something else going on here. I'm not sure what, but something else. This is NOT because the seller is from China and using a drop shipper here in the US.
Ebay does NOT ask the buyer to pay for shipping on a SNAD request. On this type of Request it is an Ebay rule that the seller is to pay for return shipping. So either you accidentally opened the request for return as a Buyer's Remorse Return or you have misunderstood something.
If you have a SNAD opened in Ebay, then you do not need to be communicating with your seller inside of Ebay. Just wait for the seller to respond to the SNAD. If your seller doesn't have the return label issued to you in 3 days, you can escalate the Request to a claim and Ebay will send you a return label at the Seller's expense so that you can return the item for refund.
If you have some communications that are written in Chinese that you want to read, go to Google, type in Translate and a form will come up where you can copy the text of the message in and it will auto translate it for you.
You Do NOT have to ship the item back to China. You do NOT have to pay return shipping. Just work within the Request for return you opened and stop trying to communicate with your seller via email. I think they are just confusing you. All the information you need is on the Request for Return you opened. Look at it carefully.
You appear to be making this more complicated than it needs to be. You do NOT decide where they item gets shipped back to and you are making some assumptions that are not true about drop shipping. This really is an easy process if you just follow the instructions and explanations you will see on the Request for Return and don't complicate things by emails with the seller which are clearly confusing the issues.

Returns are supposed to be sent back to the item location in the listing but if you’ve received a note from eBay saying that the seller can’t send a label then the system seems to be allowing the return to be sent to China. A seller in another country cannot send a usps label but the seller is still responsible for sending you money for the return label and you should not purchase the label until you receive the money. Since it’s unlikely that they will send you the money as it will be expensive, you will probably have to phone ebay. But first you should figure what the label is going to cost....use Priority..and send the seller a message through the return window asking them to send the message new through PayPal.
Did ebay tell you on the phone to pay for the postage first? If so, that’s bad advice as there is no way for eBay to make the seller repay you..that’s why you should not buy the label until the seller sends you the money. If you do end up returning the headphones, you can include a copy of your eBay invoice in the package.
Or, if you haven’t talked to ebay yet, ignore my first paragraph and phone them to point out that the item was sent from within US and that the seller hasn’t yet sent you a label for the return. They may end up refunding you without a return.

You got an item that was not as described. You have 30 days to open an item not as described case with eBay. The seller is tryhing to get you to not open a case in time.
Open a case NOW. Go to the Resolution Center and pick I received an item that does not match the seller's description. Follow the directions to return the item and/or get your money back. The seller will have to pay return shipping. Do not accept a replacement, just a refund.
There is a link to the Resolution Center on the bottom of every page on EBay. Make sure once you open a case not to close it for ANY reason until you have your refund. Also keep up with the case and have eBay step in when the option becomes available (usually 3 days). Do NOT let the case time out.
You are covered, and if you follow these directions you will not lose your money. The seller is hoping you don't know this and won't ask. Good for you that you did!

The return system changed dramatically in October of 2017. Inside the Request for Return, you do not have the option to communicate with your trading partner. So any emails that are happening in this situation are happening outside the Request for Return.
Sellers can have a different return to address. Like some mega sellers could have a special return center to process those items. So Ebay does allow a seller to have multiple return addresses. In this particular case, if the seller wants it back in China, they can do that. But it is important to remember that on a SNAD, the seller pays return shipping, so the Seller should be providing a return label. It is however doubtful that the seller would want to do this as it is quite expensive. And for a dropshipper, it doesn't make any sense because then the seller would have to ship it back to the USA to the company they used as a dropshipper to get their refund on the product.
I believe it to be true that Ebay can't send the label to the buyer IF the seller is having it shipped back to China because Ebay isn't qualified to fill out the customs forms for the seller. But it makes no sense at all that the seller would have the item shipped back to China. So I think there is something here that we are not aware of or is not being described accurately by the OP.
If the claim has been opened for 3+ days, it would be easiest for the buyer just to escalate the claim so that Ebay steps in. Certainly the buyer could call Ebay, but it really isn't necessary, just use the tools offered in the Return System.

Thanks for your input.
I received a defective headset am fm type. It does not work at all, so I opened a request for return because it is defective. This case that is now open does not allow me to open another case at the same time. Ebay is waiting until the 9 of this month for me return the headset and notify the seller that I have.
The return address on the sellers page is in Chinese. I cant read it. I had to make 4 email requests to the seller to get him to answer. When he did yesterday, he gave me an address in China written in english. I won't send it to china because his return request is still in Chinese and there is nothing in the ebay system that connects with the Chinese address he sent. To make matters worse, the seller sent me another return address tonight that is different than the one in Chiina. This address is in indiana here in the states. But he does not have this second address change on his ebay return address page. That address is still in Chinese.
Ebay sent me an email through their system telling me that the seller cannot send a prepaid shipping label. Ebay is waiting for me to return the headset and notify the seller that it is in the mail. So from ebay's perspective, I'm just haven't acted yet in returning the headset. Now the time to do this runs out on the 9th this month. So I have to call eaby about this. By the way, I have so far not been given an option to escellate this by turning it over to the resolution people at Ebay. It's been about 5 days since I first open a request for return, which the seller accepted.
Long story short. I just have to get on the phone and call them because I'm aftraid this will time out
on the 9th if I don't, I'll lose my money. Ebay is not easy to deal with. I have experience with many returns on merchandise I purchased with no problems whatsoever. But when you don't have a valid address in the states you can read it's nearly impossible.
The fact that the seller has sent two return addresses in english, one in China and the other in the USA. Tells me this seller is really not honest. I don't know what's wrong with this guy, but he is a newbie. with only 17 feedbacks.
Thanks again. I will update on this site when whatever happens is final to make sure others here know for future use.

I received a defective headset am fm type. It does not work at all, so I opened a request for return because it is defective. This case that is now open does not allow me to open another case at the same time.
Yes, that is correct. You can only have one claim per transaction. Why would you need to open another one? What are you trying to accomplish?
Ebay is waiting until the 9 of this month for me return the headset and notify the seller that I have.
What? This is not how this is handled normally by Ebay. I'm at a loss to tell you why as I've never seen or heard of anything like this before. Are you sure you are understanding what the Request for Return screen is telling you.
You filed the Request for return as a defective item, so that makes it a SNAD or INAD depending on what you want to call it. They both mean the same thing. On all SNADs the seller has to pay for return shipping. Yes you have a certain amount of time to get it in the mail, that would be correct. Using the label Ebay should have provided you for the return.
The return address on the sellers page is in Chinese. I cant read it. I had to make 4 email requests to the seller to get him to answer.
I explained this and more in earlier posts. Just go to Google, type in Translator, hit enter and a transalation box will show up. Copy the text in from what you are trying to read and then it will translate it into English. This is really easy to do. You don't need to keep emailing your seller. You are just adding confusion for yourself by doing this.
When he did yesterday, he gave me an address in China written in english. I won't send it to china because his return request is still in Chinese and there is nothing in the ebay system that connects with the Chinese address he sent.
As explained in earlier postings, your seller can not make you return it to China at your expense. They can't make you mail it anywhere at your expense. It is their responsibility to cover your return shipping. Are you reading the posts on this thread. You have me and other trying to help you, but it does not seem you are reading what we are typing out for you.
To make matters worse, the seller sent me another return address tonight that is different than the one in Chiina.
Sending you an address is not the same as providing you a label. Just get off this merry go round you are on with this seller and call Ebay tomorrow. The SELLER should be providing you a return label. You should not care where the item ships back to, the point is to have the seller pay the return shipping.
This address is in indiana here in the states. But he does not have this second address change on his ebay return address page. That address is still in Chinese.
Again, CALL EBAY! You are NOT responsible for return shipping.
Ebay sent me an email through their system telling me that the seller cannot send a prepaid shipping label. Ebay is waiting for me to return the headset and notify the seller that it is in the mail.
That does not make any sense. It is EBAY's policy that the seller pay for return shipping.
So from ebay's perspective, I'm just haven't acted yet in returning the headset.
I'm not sure about that. I think there is some misunderstandings going on here.
Now the time to do this runs out on the 9th this month. So I have to call eaby about this. By the way, I have so far not been given an option to escellate this by turning it over to the resolution people at Ebay. It's been about 5 days since I first open a request for return, which the seller accepted.
All I can say is you really need to call Ebay.
Long story short. I just have to get on the phone and call them because I'm aftraid this will time out
on the 9th if I don't, I'll lose my money. Ebay is not easy to deal with.
It appears to me you have complicated this process with all the emails with the seller. I don't know if it is Ebay or something else at play here, but some of what you state doesn't make any sense to me.
05-06-2018 10:33 PM
I called ebay today and they are taking care of it. The person I talked to is investigating and will contact me with a decision within 48 hours, which is standard for this type of thing.
With regard to the shipping lable, the seller would not prepay a label for me stating he cannot do so.
What is surprising to me is that ebay sent me an email stating the above and that I should pay for shipping the return and that they will ask the seller to reimburse me. Slim chance of that happening.
He turned down 3 requests for a prepaid shipping label. So, I called ebay today and it looks like they are going to take care of all this with a refund if seller doesn't forward one within the next 48 hours.
By the way, ebay rep stated that there is nothing wrong with having a seller in China and mailing items from Las Vegas. But I think this is at the very least misleading for buyers. Even though my parcel was mailed to me from Las Vegas and arrived in 3-4 days.
05-06-2018 10:37 PM
To really understand all that happened you'd need to see all the emails that cam to me through their system. I didn't attempt to do anything that I was not told to do by ebay. This is the first time this has happend to me in over 20 years. All other similar situations went very smooth.
Thanks for your inputs on this issue.
Best

I'm glad you called. I don't know why they are making you wait 48 hours, but I'm glad you called.
They may figure this out for you and fix it, but typically they can do that while you are on the phone with them, so if you don't hear anything in 48 hours, call again. This time stay on the phone with them until you have a resolution.
"With regard to the shipping lable, the seller would not prepay a label for me stating he cannot do so." I know, you have said this several times on the thread. I know I'm repeating myself here, but it simply is NOT true.
I know, the CSR is correct. There isn't anything wrong with dropshipping or having an international account and dropshipping from the US. The thing that is wrong is what your seller has been telling you. From not being able to print a label, to reimbursing you for return shipping, to shipping back to China. It is all FALSE.
It isn't misleading. You bought something that you expected to be shipped from a location in the US to your location. That is NOT misleading. What happened was that you have a buyer that doesn't know how to properly deal with a return or the return system on Ebay.
05-06-2018 11:32 PM
To really understand all that happened you'd need to see all the emails that cam to me through their system.
Oh no I don't. Nor would I want to. While there may be reason from some communication through M2M regarding a return, you two had way too much and all it did was confuse you and the issue. Most of the problems you had was because of those communications.
I didn't attempt to do anything that I was not told to do by ebay.
What? Ebay told you to email the seller? With the newer verion of the return system [it started October 2017], there would be NO need for you to contact the seller in an email. The opening of the Request for return was enough. There was no reason for Ebay to advise you to email your seller.
Either a seller does what they are suppose to do inside the Request for a Return or they don't. If they don't, it is NOT your responsibility to chase them down for answers. All you need to do is escalate the Request to a claim, Ebay steps in and takes care of things.
I just think you had some misunderstandings that complicated this return and has made it drag out for you. But with that said, I'm glad you are getting closer to having it resolved.
This is the first time this has happend to me in over 20 years. All other similar situations went very smooth.
You are a seller yourself. You should know how the return system works. You should have know right off that you didn't need to email your seller after you opened the return nor did you have to pay for any return shipping.
