returning a clock radio

I purchased a clock radio a few weeks ago and just opened to see if it worked.  The seller will not accept my return because she states it is not considered new anymore.  Well, how did she expect me to see if it worked or not, by osmosis.  The lights are very dim on the time for the regular time and the alarm time.  You can hardly see them in the daylight or nighttime.  I know there is something wrong because I have another one just like it, that works just fine now, but wasn't working when I purchased this one.

If it’s less than 30 days open a return in the resolution center. If it’s past 30 days open a return in PayPal. Don’t wait so long to try electronics

You can open a dispute in the Resolution Center below.  Choose My item is not as described.

Yes, it's no longer absolutely new, but that's not your fault.

Can you look for a kabob or a swish on your new clock radio @olgamelnick which adjusts the display brightness for night or day, or low/mundane/high?

I was thinking the same thing, especially after reading the line about the other clock that mysteriously resumed proper lighting some time later.

I would see if there is either a light sensor somewhere in the front display that's occasionally getting covered up (and thus thinks it's nighttime) or a slide switch somewhere on the side, back or underside that controls the display brightness.

If you can post the brand and model number of the clock radio, it should be easy to resolve that possibility with a little searching.

I never said that the reason my original radio didn't work was because of the lights on the dials, but for some reason it went haywire on me one day.  I searched high and low and even tried to remove the screws so that I could put in a higher bulb in , but no such luck.   I don't know why the visibility is so poor even in day light and nighttime also.  I wish it was that simple to find a switch or thing a mabob.  But thanks for your input.
