I shipped an item Priority mail that was damaged. When I filed for a claim on the USPS site it came up not eligable

Was the box damaged or were the contents damaged?  If you wrote box on the claim , that is why it's not eligible. You need to be clear.

Remember, they do what any good insurance company does, always deny first, most people won't pursue.
