The seller has already sent me a return shipping label, but then we agreed to a partial refund.

I can live with the both broken hinge covers on the laptop if a partial refund is given

There was no mention auction or in photos.

If the partial refund does not come through, I will mail the laptop back.

What do I as the buyer need to do now?

Just wait for the partial refund to show up?

@broadwaynyc Has it been hours or days since the Seller agreed to issue you a Partial Refund? if days then it may never happen. You would be better off processing an Item not as described claim in the Resolution Center and return it for a full refund ...

Yes, but don't let it go past the time you need to ship the item back.

Ebay only gives you a few days to ship it back, so make sure you get the refund or get it shipped back before that date.

It's been a few hours but they are in California and I am on the East Coast.

I am just curious what happens to the return shipping label.

Is the seller out the cost of it ?

I am hoping that they get the money back for the shipping label if I do not use it.

Right. I understand.

I have done full refund where I sent something back.

This is the first time I have been given a return shipping label and then agreed to a partial refund.

Was not sure of the proper procedure.

With returns there are now options for the buyer to request a return label rather than wait on the seller if the seller accepts returns. That could be were the label came from. Most shipping labels have to be used with in24 hours of purchase. Perhaps it would be good to message the seller back asking for clarification if they sent the label and if they are expecting the item to be returned. If they really are looking for you to return it then I would demand a full refund not a partial. If the seller issues the label by mistake then they can void the label through the shipping label page and get a refund.

If the return label was sent through Ebay, seller isn't charged until the label gets scanned by the carrier.

No, the seller isn't billed for the return shipping label until you mail it, so no money spent, yet.

And no need for the seller to void the return shipping label -- the seller can't even see the return shipping label, or its tracking number.

There are some sellers that will send a return label, then offer you a partial refund.

But, what some will do is delay sending the partial and keep giving excuses for why it hasn't been sent yet and asking buyer to wait.

They will do this until it's to late for buyer to ship item back, then they'll get the case closed.

I am not sure whether it was eBay that automatically sent the return shipping label or the seller that sent the return shipping label.

The partial refund came through late last night after I had gone to bed.

This morning I cancelled the return on eBay.

Thank you everyone for their help.

For a seller that specializes in sells laptops on eBay, it is "amazing" to me that the seller did not bother to mention the broken hinge covers exposing the cables to the LCD screen in the auction or have photos of it.

It was the first thing I noticed when I took the laptop from the box. Shaking my head.

They might have been using stock photos so they did not plan to photograph anything. Even if they are photographing their own used stuff then they might be reusing photos if they have more than one example of that model of laptop. Or they were just sloppy.
