meetups and shipping

so i sold an item to a local buyer who suggested we meet up to save him on shipping   I agreed  and he paid for the item online   sans shipping. I have already left positive feedback for him My question is   how can i let ebay know we met up as they are looking for a shipping number  and also  so that the buyer doesn't claim he didnt get it and file a claim   any advice   Thanks in advance

@dakota26

There's nothing you can do now.

If the buyer files an INR, without tracking to show it was delivered, you'll have to refund.

Have a great day.

Re: meetups and shipping

Next time a buyer asks, change the shipping method in the listing to local pickup.

I suppose you could mail a print out of the packing slip with a thank you note and use a tracked service.

So how much did HE save?

And what did it cost YOU in time, mileage, gas and lost productivity?

Re: meetups and shipping

I had my very first Local Pickup Only sale ever just yesterday... but I had revised the listing to allow for Local Pickup.

When my buyer paid, he was sent a code (to scan) and a 6-digit code (for us old folks that don't know how to scan)

to provide as proof of pickup. I entered the 6 digits into the Tracking Number field on the order. So far, so good...

Did your buyer get one of those, @dakota26?

If you're going to offer local pickup maybe you should read the policy first.

Re: meetups and shipping

So did you actually offer local pickup in the listing or did your buyer say hey we're in the same town so let's meet?  If it's the latter, you will receive a defect on your account for late shipping.  You are also not protected from a dishonest buyer stating you never shipped and they haven't received the item.  It is always best to ship to protect you as the seller, and not worry about saving the buyer a few bucks.

Re: meetups and shipping

So far I have had one buyer meet me to pick up several books. Everything went great. Had no tracking number to provide. Got no defects from E-bay.

I have a cell phone I am trying to decide if a meet and greet would be the right way to go or just donate the thing. Only used it a couple of times before changing cell companies. Now I don't know what to do.
