When your media mail package is inspected and USPS finds a magazine in there then your buyer will have postage due for the cost difference between media mail and calculated Priority Mail, and possibly all your MM packages from then on will be inspected.

Gonna go to the P.O. on Monday and discuss this with them.
I will report back here afterwards and let youse know what I was told.
Make sure you show the clerk at your PO the chart linked in post #8 above @rynenyne. In fact, print it and bring it with you and leave the copy with them to circulate among all the clerks at that PO.

If you go to your post office on Monday, please request to speak to the postmaster, rather than just whomever may be working at the counter at that time. The postmaster should have a wider knowledge of USPS regulations, rather than a counter worker, who may have only recently been hired and be unfamiliar with ALL the rules.
As noted previously, the eBay poster known as lja440 is a long-term postal employee, and KNOWS the rules.
I'm glad to see that he has stepped in.
Thanks, lja440!

Nope. Nothing with ads is allowed. That includes very old ads you can no longer even buy from.

I certainly will speak with her.
I am on a first name basis with her for the last 10+ years.

some Postmasters are, on occasion , unfortunately, woefully misinformed.

So when you are speaking with her ask her if she received that chart because it was supposed to have been distributed to all post offices for them to post in a place for all employees to see for reference when asking about Media Mail.

Here is that chart:

Interestingly, the Magazines entry of the quick-reference chart disallows them on the basis of their advertising, not the fact that they're periodicals. I started wading through the Domestic Mail Manual to try to find the basis for disallowing them as Periodicals, but gave up that rabbit hole just now and am going back to watching "48 Hours" instead. 😉

It's right at the top of the MM "content standards" section:
Mailable matter meeting one of the specific eligibility standards in 4.0 for Media Mail and 5.0 for Library Mail, and that is neither mailed or required to be mailed as First-Class Mail nor entered as Periodicals, may be mailed as Media Mail or Library Mail, respectively.

So -- what did your postmaster friend tell you on Monday, about using USPS Media rate to ship magazines?

As of June 10, 2022, only crickets. . ..
