insure a package with a value over $1000

I have shipped plenty of thousand dollar watches with USPS 1st class shippping

if it were me I might insure for 300 and get signature confirmation

its not going to break so there is little risk of that

I woud never choose an envelope or jiffy bag.  I like using boxes but thats just me

I find the USPS insurance slightly cheaper then the third party offering from eBay. If you buy through eBay you will be required (maybe strongly recommended) to purchase signature confirmation. Do it. It's almost like insurance as well

There are a few issues first.  You need proof out the wazoo of it's value if you stand any chance to collect. Even then your covered if the shipper looses the package.  Shipping damage is much harder to collect on. It has to be double boxed with 4 inches of bubble wrap on all sides on the item and between the two boxes. Using double wall cartons.  That will make a larger package and over size shipping rates kick in.

Anything less, and you won't win a damage case.  It has to be packed to the outer carton has to show severe damage before the item can be damaged.

In addition to insurance, you'll need signature confirmation since it's over $750

It is a 4”collectible patch. Thinking of shipping in a 6x6x6 box or a shipping envelope

Envelope is fine. 1st Class insurance goes up to $5K. As stated, add signature confirmation to that.

Personally, I would sandwich the patch between two 5" square cardboard pieces to prevent creasing and mail 1st class as stated above.

I think this is what I am looking for.
I was under the impression that there was a 1000 limit on Insurance with USPS thru EBay.

If you are saying I can ship USPS first class and insure up to 5,000 than I will pad the patch and put it in the shipping envelope and send it on its way.

I think the $1000 is for Shipcover insurance which is the optional one not provided by USPS.

If you can fit it in an enevlope it can go Registered Mail Return Receipt Requested.  Used by Banks and the likes for stocks and securities.  You have it buy it in person at the Post Office.

Since no one actually answered your question I will.  you have to go onto the ups website and sign in and type the address manually and insure it for the amount there.  eBay you can only insure any package with any shipper for max $999.
