how do I refund a Shipping Overage??

When I went to make a Shipping Label for an order I noticed the amount my Customer was charged {for shipping}, was Way Off. All of the measurements and weights were right, but the charge was More than Double.

So I'd like to give a refund for the 'shipping overage', But can't find anywhere to do that.

The only thing I found was giving a partial refund on the Item And a little bit on the shipping, which is Not correct.

Unfortunately that's the only way to do it. I freaking hate this refund system. eBay changed it a couple years ago. So yeah, if you want to send a shipping refund you use the partial refund option you found and the system will prorate it across both item and ship cost.

As to the rate the buyer was charged, sounds like maybe you're charging buyers retail rates. Generally speaking the retail rates are a good option, but for large / heavy items like that last one you sold - yeah, it's going to result in a huge gap. If that's the exception to the rule I'd leave your shipping as is. If you're typically shipping large / heavy items and seeing a huge ship cost difference, see below for more info.

The question is whether you want to charge buyers retail rates or discounted rates. Keep in mind you have access to discounted rates when you purchase labels on eBay regardless of how much you charge the buyer.

The setting to offer buyers discounted rates can be found on your shipping preferences page under carrier specific discounts: https://www.ebay.com/ship/prf

Since eBay charges a fee on total amount buyer pays (item + ship + tax), by charging discounted rates you are losing money on every single package. If you want to make up for that you can add a handling fee or increase your item costs - or simply charge retail rates for a built in cushion instead of passing on the discounts.

how do I refund a Shipping Overage??

Thank you So Much wastingtime101 for the great help!!

I must have 'checked Or Not checked' a box when I changed the listing from Free Shipping to Calculated.

My Word, things have sure gone Nuts!

If it was just a dollar or 2 I wouldn't worry, But the shipping that was charged was More than twice the cost, so ya I will do a refund on the overage.

I like the Simple way of 'free' shipping, {I figure my prices with All my costs included}, so I'm going to rethink anything over a couple of pounds from here on...

Life, it sure Used to be a lot simpler!
