handling returns from buyers`

I have no problem accepting returns and issuing refunds if item arrives back to me in same condition as when I sold it...... even when buyer simply changed their mind.... What I do have a problem with is EBAY holding funds for the item purchased as soon as I ok the return.  At times, especially when sales are slow, this practice causes undue hardship on sellers. As sellers we have to abide by the timelines of ebay for everything, why is it that they do not have to abide by the same rules?????

Ebay policy states:

You have 6 days to refund the buyer after you've received their returned item.

it was less than 10 minutes after I ok'd the return of a $250 item and sent a prepaid label to the buyer that ebay snatched my funds and cause me to be -$97.00 in my paypal account. I have been a seller for many years and I have had many instances where the return was never sent back to me at all. Yes ebay will release the funds back to me if that happens but that is 2+ weeks from now and that timeline is one that they follow to a T. Ebay makes a mint off us sellers yet sides with the buyer on darn near everything. I spoke to an ebay agent about it tonight  and basically got nowhere, again! So now I have to ship the items sold today and awaiting shipment later than I prefer  (which could lead to late shipping marks on my seller rating)  because of  this.
