Maybe that I am wrong but I wanted the cost for a 8 X 8 X 30 box sent by priority mail. The cost shown was over $32.00. This cost was for a oversize box, over 108" combined length and girth. I repacked the order in a smaller box and the shipping was $15.66. I figured the large box was 106" combined length and girth. Was I wrong?

I've noticed an upcharge for items in a box with one dimension over 18-inches for priority mail. I've only found it by putting in the dimensions, I haven't found a specific page explaining this.

Previously, I found some dimensional shipping increases when one of my package dimensions went over 18-inches, but I can't replicate that at the moment. I really had to do so repacking in the past, but I can't see that now. Sorry that this isn't really much help.

It's not about length, or length-plus-girth; it's about package volume.
USPS charges a "dimensional weight" for packages with a volume over 1 cubic foot (1728 cubic inches) when you use Priority Mail, Parcel Select Ground, or Retail Ground.
The volume of your package is 1920 cubic inches, so it will ship at the dimensional rate. The formula is the volume in cubic inches divided by 166. The dimensional weight of your box is 1920/166 which is 11.56, so it will ship at the 12-pound rate.
