Is anyone else having issues with the FedEx charges using the eBay shipping calculator?

For the past week or so, it seems the eBay shipping calculator has broken and I can no longer trust it for listing offering Free Shipping. When I generate a listing, I actually have my item boxed so I know exactly the size of the box and its weight. Because eBay like a seller to offer free shipping, I calculate the FedEx shipping cost and incorporate that cost into the price of my item and offer free shipping.
I don't sell a lot of items but in the past week or so, two items that I offered free shipping actually cost almost 50% more than what the calculator said it would. Being small items with slim margins, I actually lost money after fees and the cost of the item. I tried to explain this issue to 3 different eBay CSR's but I'm sure you all know how that went. I guess I currently have a "trouble ticket" in their Tech department. Here are a couple of examples:
The calculator said $8.31 - NY, $8.31 - Chicago, $8.32 - LA for FedEx ground which I chose as the shipping method. I went to print the label and eBay wants to charge me $14.03.

Notice the calculator seems stuck on the 8.31 - 8.32 range?
Has anyone else noticed this issue? To mitigate this issue, I no longer offer free shipping on any item that has a shipping weight over 1 pound.
