Has the buyer filed a SNAD complaint with eBay?

Ask them if they broke it, may be appropriate.

It is rarely a good idea to pick a fight with the buyer. That isn't likely to end well for the seller.

The OP could inquire in a round -a -bout way by asking if this was damaged during shipment as they (the OP) can file an insurance claim and ask the buyer to send pics of the package and damaged item.

There is no reason to poke the bear.

Simply request that they return the item to you for a refund.
See what kind of response you get or you may get no response at all.
COYOTES RULE!!!

I like my suggestion & you like yours. But don't see mine as poking the bear - the bear woke up on their own 13 days after delivery. My way does not suggest that the OP is challenging the buyer claim but rather is seeking info/evidence to help him out with an insurance claim.

Of course, I didn't say they couldn't. What I responded to was a poster suggesting a more direct approach which IMHO can cause even more issues that the seller may not want to deal with.

It is all in how you word whatever message you send the buyer. As long as it is polite, professional and not pointing any fingers at anyone, it may very well be find. I've sent such emails in the past. But directly stating or asking the buyer if they caused the damaged [like the other poster suggested] is rarely a good approach and is definitely inviting more issues.
