how can it 'sometimes' price it too high if the calculated shipping is based on user (you) input....
are you saying if you put in a
1 lb 12 X 12 X 12 package from 10019 ZIP to 90210 ZIP parcel select that sometimes it prices it at 9.03
then you do the same calculation with the same parameters again and it prices it different?
I tried it out here:

and also got the same answer here:
Sorry, a calculator rarely changes the answer to the same question

Calculated shipping is always on the money as long as the seller inputed the correct weight and dimension. The only time that it's wrong is if the post office raised their prices the day after the item sold. Look for price increases coming in early July and start editing your fixed priced items.

Can you provide an example @ranasgone?
Are you talking about the difference of charging retail rates to buyers but paying online rates when you purchase labels? If so that's the default setting and can be adjusted on your shipping preferences page.
Personally I think it's smart to charge the retail rate because you have to pay fees on the amount and the difference between online and retail rates can go towards those fees and packing materials if there are any pennies leftover.

The shipping calculator in eBay listings defaults to show the retail price. Therefore, your actual eBay postage label cost will be lower (except for Media Mail and Parcel Select Ground).
You can use eBay's shipping calculator to check the prices; notice that there's an option to see either the retail ("in store") or online ("eBay") prices.

If you would prefer to charge buyers the actual postage cost you can change your site preferences under Shipping to "share carrier discounts". Many sellers choose to leave their listings set up to charge retail prices because it provides a built-in handling fee to cover overhead expenses such as boxes, labels, and fees.
