USPS. If you're shipping via USPS, you'll need to send your packages by the following dates in order to ensure they arrive before Dec. 25. USPS will deliver mail as usual on Monday, Dec. 24, but no mail will be delivered on Tuesday, Dec. 25

I've seen USPS vans on Christmas Day, yes. I suspect the part-timers in their own cars might be delivering as well.
I've been told in the past that the reasoning (at our local PO, at least) is that they're not officially delivering that day, but if someone wants to come in and do some delivering, no one's going to stop them.
We also had a USPS van deliver one package this morning, followed by two more USPS packages (from Amazon) delivered by someone in a private car around lunchtime.

I'm a mail carrier. Today and tomorrow (Christmas eve)will have normal mail delivery. Christmas day there will be limited package delivery. Meaning most packages will be delivered, what will not be delivered are things like packaged pharmaceuticals.

How would you even know a package contained pharmaceuticals, and why wouldn't you deliver it?
Easy, They come in poly bags with the pharmacy's name on the return address. Also we pretty much knows who gets them. In some cases I even know what the meds are for. I have a retired Postmaster that we even put her husbands insulin container in their fridge on the back porch. Some of the meds require a signature but most do not, I'm more concerned with someone snagging someone's needed medications than some random widget no matter the monetary value. Too many houses are empty this week and not all put their mail on hold. There is a good portion of my mailboxes that had the mail I delivered Sat still in them yesterday especially with the mild weather we had this weekend.

You have time to read the return address on packages? Is that pretty common? No wonder my mail doesn't arrive until 6, 7, or even after 8pm.

Honestly, how long could it possibly take to read a return address?
Doesn't the carrier have to pick up the package to deliver it? Doesn't he have it in his hands for a moment before delivering it?

Probably because many people are gone for the day and they don't want to leave 'drugs' on the porch?

lja440: I should have done this a long time ago, but I just wanted to thank you for your continued excellent information about the USPS. I've learned a lot from you. Thanks again.

And more importantly, WHY is he reading it?

Thieves want electronics more than grandma's heart pills, not that thieves would know what was in the package to begin with.
