I have two shipping options set up - std first class and priority mail flat box. On the items I have sold, the buyer has chosen std first class and that's what they paid for. When I go to purchase the label it has defaulted to the higher priced priority flat box. Fortunately I noticed it and changed it to the correct price but is it normal for the sytem to not automatically populate this based on what was actually purchased? Thanks for any help.

Your shipping options are standard shipping which isn't any one particular service and Priority. The system can't default to a generic option as it doesn't know which service you are referring to, so it defaults to Priority. If you want it to default to first class, you have to choose usps first class as your first option when you are listing.. It's also considered as standard shipping but it is a specific service, not a generic one.

From what I've seen @martindl01, the label page typically defaults to the first service you offered on the list of shipping options, despite what the buyer selects.
So if I offer both first class and priority, and first class was the first on the list but buyer paid for priority because they want the item sooner, I need to pay attention and make sure I don't inadvertently downgrade the shipping service buyer paid for.

Offering more than 1 service is quite confusing to most buyers as well as they don't even know 'where' to 'choose' from.
As of now, 1st Class & Priority ship about the same time, 1st Class being under 16oz, Priority- over.
So, go by the weight and choose just one type on your listings and don't give buyers a 'choice'.
ps. 1st Class is changing to Ground in May- not sure what that does to the 'timing' of shipping yet.

I looked at the detailed shipping terms in a couple of your recent sold items. As noted in the other post, your listings did not offer First Class shipping; they charged a flat price of $5.95 for generic "Standard shipping" which is a category invented by eBay which includes USPS First Class packages and also a couple of services offered by UPS and FedEx.
If you want your label form to automatically go to First Class package, just choose that specific service when you're setting up the listing.

Thank you for taking the time to look at the listings. That makes perfect sense and i'll make the appropriate change going forward.

Ah, thank you. I didn't realize 'standard' wasn't a real service. Much appreciated.
