Ebay is showing the same price for a 1 lb. package with first class or priority shipping.

The shipping calculator in eBay listings defaults to show the retail postage cost. In your site preferences, you can change this to show the discounted online ("eBay") rate.
The weight limit for retail First Class postage is 13 ounces. So when the shipping calculator is set up for a weight greater than that, it does exactly the same as the clerk at the Post Office counter would do -- upgrades to Priority Mail.
At current rates, the online price for First Class package postage is the same for any weight from 12+ to 15.99 ounces, so one easy workaround is for the seller to set up the listing with a weight of 13 ounces, so the (Retail) price for a First Class package is shown.

Hello, Thank you for your reply and answer. I understand what you explained, but 1 lb. first class has worked for me in the past many times. I guess that something has changed now and I will put 13 oz. into the shipping calculator. Again, thank you for your help.

Thanks for mentioning that the calculator can be changed to show the ebay rate. That is pretty helpful.

You've had to use the 13oz for about 6 years now, that's not new. If you put in 16oz, it thinks it's Priority b/c it uses Retail Rates & there is no 16oz FC Retail Rate. It's confusing & annoying, especially since the label printing system DOES understand the difference, but it has been this way for a VERY long time.

If you put in 16 ounces, it will think it is 1 lb. A little reminder use to pop up ask if you rounded up to 1 lb. Put in 15.9 ounces.

Depends on weight, size and distance shipping. There are cases where priority was cheaper than the regular postal rate. Or where the price was the same and one had a longer delivery time. Only saw it a few times over the years but it does happen.

I don't know what you mean by "regular postal rate," but Priority is never cheaper than First Class package shipping. At eBay rates, the highest price for a First Class package (15 ounces to Zone 8 ) is $6.78, whereas the lowest eBay price for Priority is $7.60 for a basic flat rate envelope.
For several years the cost for Parcel Select Ground was close to the Priority price, or even identical, but that is no longer the case.
