When is backlog going to be touched?

Anyone know when the USPS may start working on the backlog?  I understand the issues that caused the backlog, but what I don't understand is why anything sent post Xmas is moving and has mostly arrived.  Seems to be a last in and first out type of situation.   I am not sure why anything sent after Xmas (I even had a media mail package arrive within 5 days!)  is taking priority over packages sent the middle of December.  The PO can't get ignore the massive piles of packages forever!  And if unemployment is high, it would make sense to bring in some temps.

A couple of mine that were overdue for about a month got delivered yesterday, so it looks like they are catching up finally...

Well, if they keep the new stuff moving they do not annoy more customers while those of us that shipped in early December are already annoyed.

Keeps the annoyance level.................  level, instead of continuing to climb.  Trying to not let their service metrics drop any lower. Just my thought. No official policy stating such.

I did finally get a refused return back 4 weeks after a nearby scan. It had likely been on the sidelines while they worked other things.

I put all accounts on "time away", and just extended it out again. I have one item that made it to Miami with the last scan Dec 20, but can not seem to get out for delivery. The ocean is nearby. Perhaps that's where the packages are going.

About ready to do an "intercept" on it, but expect that USPS will just refund the fee stating "unsuccessful". They don't know where it is as evidenced by the "no scan in 14 days" status.

Some places are backed up more than others. Some way before the Holiday package glut.

Not just packages delayed. Some of my weekly grocery store ads have arrived after the end date for sales.

Wife has an "instate" purchase "on the way" from the shipping partner from early December. Not sure if the "shipping partner" has failed to get it to USPS, or if USPS just has not processed it. Waiting, waiting, but to not miss the 30 cut off, it is almost INR time.

My wife works for Post office here in Virginia  They are just as frustrated long hours 6 - 7 days a week and Mail volume is off the chart’s they deliver every thing they get that day   Yes COVID has hit hard in a lot of processing plants  yes they are under staffed in some places and they just can’t hire temp workers  ( test, drug test back ground check) but yes I believe also you are correct some mail got buried unfortunately.

Could give them just a tiny bit of credit?  They are busting the behinds clearing out the back log.  I got a package at 10:00 pm a couple weeks ago.  They are working hard with missing, sick or dead workers, and trying their best.

Did you not hear about Covid and the number of peple who died?  They worked somewhere before they died.  Everyone is playing catch up.

I guess it's like Chicago where the dead still go to vote.

OK so I mail a package today.

Should the post office find one of those 100 trailers in the parking lot and put my package there?

I  am not sure what the answer is - but maybe the post office should have limited the number of packages they could take in per day like the stores do with the shoppers?  And I don't want to turn this into a COVID debate, the majority of folks do recover/are asymptomatic and go back to work.  Around here retired folks and people in nursing homes are the ones dying, not the postal workers, but maybe it is different elsewhere?  I understand some delay, but I paid $35 for a priority mail package to go two hours within my state on 12/18 and it is still not there.  I wish the PO worker would have said something because I could have driven it there.  I don't think that it is reasonable for priority packages (that we paid a holiday surcharge on) to be sitting while media mail shipped post holiday is moving/delivered.   Media should be the last to move.  Communication from the PO would help - do they have any expectations on when they plan to clear the back log?  And maybe they need to limit the number of new packages being mailed for awhile?

Its frustrating, difficult, even dumb what's going on at USPS.

The answers are complicated and would involve too many people working Together and that's not going to happen.

Its same for our war on drugs, taxes, race relations, police, election, pandemic, etc.

A change will be made here, a change there... life goes on
