What to do when obvious scammer requests return? (Haven't accepted yet)

Returns...

3 weeks after delivery,  get a missing parts return request.

Conversation has been suspicious,  " no I don't have the original packaging,  I want 50% for one missing part, I'll just do a AMEX chargeback if you don't pay " etc...

I was about to call their bluff and tell the to return the item for a full refund, but

when I look them up, they've purchased a nearly identical item previously,  and filed a negative feed back for that seller.  Contacted that seller, and they went through the same ruse with this buyer - the buyer apparently returned that seller an empty box.   I figure I'll get the same empty box treatment.  The buyer

So what are my options here?  I only have a few days on the return page or ebay will autmatically give the crook their money.   I have options to accept a complete return (likely get an empty box), offer a partial refund (which the seller will likely reject and thus be a complete return(likely get an empty box) , give a full refund (yea right),  or send a message.

If I keep sending messages, does that extend the 'reply by window' so the return won't be automatically closed in the buyer's favor?

I figure I should at least post my findings in the conversations so that I can get refunded with a lot of effort and problems down the road, but this just seems like the stupidest of solutions.

(actually before I hit post I just looked some more, saw a positive feedback on the buyer's post that said "sellers beware this guy is a scammer" (nice tatic)  but for another one of the same item.   That's at least two sellers they've conned, how do I not become the third?

If you do nothing, eBay will refund the buyer. You can report the buyer, using the same information you gave here. It will be on your transaction page. Try that and see if that helps.

Right not, the buyer hasn't done anything wrong.

Accept the return and provide a return shipping label.

If the buyer ships back an empty box or not the item you shipped, file mail fraud and a police report.

After the buyer is refunded, use those reports to appeal the case.

Have a great day.

We had an issue over the summer with someone scamming people with drop shipping inflatable pools.

1. Take the return

2. When you receive the item, inspect it and take photos.

3. Contact Ebay and point out the details of your situation along with the negative feedback the buyer has.

4. Wait until the last day you can refund and give the partial refund. DO NOT wait until later than that otherwise Ebay will refund them everything.

5. Report the buyers misuse of returns.

6. If the buyer complains and Ebay decides to give them the difference, likely they will not take that money from you.

7. If they do take the money from you, contact them again with the details of your prior communication and likely they will give you the money back.

In our situation, the buyer was already being investigated by Ebay by the time the item came back. The buyer lost their MBG and ended up not having to pay anything back to the buyer. Ebay even reimbursed us the amount of the return shipping label.

Can you arrange it that the return package will be held at the post office for pickup, to be opened by you in the presence of the post master & on video

Good luck

You've already become the third I'm sorry to say. However there are some steps you can take that won't get your money back but can somewhat help. What you need to concentrate on is how can you stop the impact to your selling account.

You need to accept the return or eBay will refund on your behalf and take the money out of your account. Plus they will charge you an additional $20 for having gotten involved. Plus you will receive a demerit and too many of those and your fees will increase so best to just accept the return now.

I also think you should send the return label and if they do send you anything else in return, file the mail fraud case against them. This person needs to be taught a lesson and you seem like the one to do it.

You also have to report them to eBay. Since you have contacted at least one other seller about them, convince that seller to also report them. If enough people do this the buyers account will either be suspended or they lose the MBG on all items.

Lastly it is against eBay policy to leave negative comments under a positive rating. If you do that then again your account will suffer and not the buyer's account. Did it affect buyers account when you yourself didn't notice it? People only look for negatives, and don't bother to actually read what is written under a positive. So nothing is gained by doing that except ruining your own seller account. Not worth it in the end.

You have other means to try to get them to stop doing this. Always follow the rules and things will work better for you in the end. This is a part of selling online. You did nothing wrong here, don't fall into the trap of revenge wrong. Best of luck to you....

Both of the other sellers (I imagine there are probably more  as this account has a 400 feedback and all the abuse seems just recent prior to the holidays)  so has either been hacked or groomed for a massive abuse.

I don't sell much, because of this **bleep**.  I don't care about my rating, folks that believe they're worth something are kidding themselves.   It seems like when I "contact seller" and send them a message that extends my 'respond by date'   Is this true, can I keep doing this?  for how long?   I imagine this buyer will shortly be banned as the other sellers are larger volume, more clout?

Wondering if I can wait out the process and they get banned first before I get put through the ebay automated grindstone.

I just can't believe that ebay doesn't immediately flag an account that requests an abnormal amount of returns  in a short period for similar items... Even I could code that.   I know they only care about making $....

No, you can't wait it out.

If you don't accept the return in a couple days, buyer can ask Ebay to step in.

If they do, Ebay could refund the buyer from your account and let them keep the item.

Have a great day.

just to follow up and Show that Ebay cares zero about protecting sellers.  ( I did get my funds (one time courtesy) , but...)

At LEAST Three different sellers reported this buyer in the past month for abusive returns.  All of us received empty boxes or boxes of worthless irrelevant items as returns.   Calls to Ebay support personnel indicated there were also several other claims against this buyer.  They have the same name and are flipping the stolen goods on an Amazon account.

Despite having at least 3 recent abusive buyer complaints from different sellers,  ebay still has refunded the buyer as well and refuses to ban them.   I view that as Ebay aiding and ENCOURAGING in the theft of property.     I tried my best to protect you other sellers.
