Today I received a notification about three parcels where Fedex has recalculated the cost.
The weight of my parcel was LESS than what I initially indicated and paid for. And Fedex charged me double the cost.
I always specifically indicate not 3.2 lb, but 4, not 5.1 lb, but 6. Because eBay asks for it. The same i do for dimensions - not 1.2 inch, but 2 etc.
I began to figure out what caused the shipping cost to double, because the dimensions were indicated correctly. I am providing you with screenshots showing what the additional charge was for. But can someone explain to me why they arose? Why do I indicate the correct sizes (and always with a margin), as Ebay asks, the client's address is known, and I receive double the shipping cost after the fact? Is your delivery calculator broken? This is destroying my business

@reclaimed_components wrote:Yah, but I purchased the label through Ebay using those dimensions. It should have been calculated correctly by Ebay. I never would have chosen FedEx if it was going cost that much. Ebay showed it being the lowest price so that's what I chose. There was not warning about any upcharges. That is unfair and very dishonest.
I completely agree with you. eBay has all the information that is needed to provide more accurate quoting of FedEx shipping, but they have failed at this simple task for 5 or more years.
Why? We can only guess ... maybe eBay thinks sellers are responsible for knowing ... maybe it doesn't happen enough to prompt eBay to make it a priority ... maybe it is something sinister like FedEx bribing decision makers at eBay to hide true costs ... maybe it is just incompetent eBay management.
But, yeah, it is a deceptive marketing tactic. I usually laugh when a seller threatens a class action lawsuit, but this is one that actually seems to me to have some possibility of success.

Its bait and switch and likely illegal. A week or so ago I had an item that had the dimensions and weight pre-entered so the buyer paid the exact amount. When I went to print the label without changing anything it was more than $10 over the price the buyer paid, same weight, dimensions and service. Which is frustrating but its better than a month later getting a handful of "cost adjustments". Can you imagine if sellers did that to buyers, there would be so many credit card chargebacks.

I have 2 incorrect charges in the past few day so I'm not sure if a 3rd round of mass errors is happening or what. The last 2 times there was a notice but I haven't seen anything on my current issues. Both of my $30 upcharges show the right dimensions and weight with an upcharge that doesn't make any sense which is exactly what happened during the previous 2 rounds of issues.

That is happening to me right now on June 12, 2024. Do they correct this? It shows my paid weight at 12.95 and Fed Ex weighted at 12.00 no issues with dimensions. Yet they charged me an additional $32.12 for a total cost of $50.67. The other they stated my weight at 15.94 and FedEx at 15.90, dimensions were good. Charged me an additional $25.92 for a total of $38.45. Both orders cost me an additional $58.05. CS at Ebay said they used a dimensional weight. WHAT? Does Ebay not use the proper calculations? Anyway, I have been mailing over 10 years on Ebay's program and NEVER had this happen until recently. Hopefully it was a mistake. I am really gun shy of ever using Fed Ex again.

This is a lie, waited 30 days, nothing happened after several calls.
Just got another bogus FedEx cost adjustment charge 6/26/2024
For exact size and weight I shipped at.
This should be criminal.
Time for a class action lawsuit.

Just happened to me. Only happened once in the 10 years or so since I’ve been selling on eBay. This is the second time, but it’s crazy.. I weighed the package to 5.25 pounds and bought a 6 Pound shipping label.
Charges for my label was a little over $18. They claimed my package was 7 pounds and then charged me an underpayment of $33.85, bringing my total for the shipping label to around $52. How the hell are they going to charge 3x times the original price of the shipping label. That’s an astronomically crazy amount they charging. If it even was 7 lbs. Their scales must be totally uncalibrated.
Seeing all the people in this forum, I swear they’re running some kind of scam, listing a lower price then charging 3x times the amount. It’s ridiculous.

definitely needs a class action suit… this is robbery.

Just experienced the same. My $62 label ended up costing $126. eBay's rep stated that fedex claimed the package was 907gr instead of the 850 that I used. The rep was very helpful, and seemed to be very aware of this issue reoccurring and automatically started a dispute with fedex for me. Now I'm checking all my charges, and the all the carriers seem to add a few dollars here and there, but fedex literally steals from you with the exorbitant added charges.

eBay simply acts as a collection agency now for all of the shippers without any access to disputes through eBay. When you contact eBay they tell you to contact the shipper and vice versa. FedEx is the worst as far as recalculating. They suck you in with the discount and then charge you outrageous upcharged collected automatically through eBay. I have just had one package same weight slightly off (2 inches), I paid $56+ and they hit me with another $46. On another, I paid for s 50 pound label and they weighed it at 56 which is the same price if you buy the label for the dimensions which were smaller than the package I shipped and they charged me another $46 for a total over $100! Which is theft frankly.
As for getting some relief... Good luck. They hide behind their calculator and one time about six months ago, I had them wrap a delicate item because they use the excuse that if you pack it and it's damaged in transit, they won't honor their fake insurance (they all do this now especially UPS which just ignores claims). They charged me another $301 on top of $38 because the box was calculated using cubic centimeters that the FedEx retail outlet used, a 24"x24" box when I paid for 20". I didn't ask for that sized box and it took me six months if deliberate and continuous calling, emailing and pestering frankly and eBay was the one holding back the refund after FedEx issues a partial refund from a FedEx regional manager that I had gotten in touch with. It's always who you speak with as eBay will tell you essentially to go pound sand.
So what to do? Do not use FedEx for any shipping. Their upcharged are outrageous while USPS and UPS will buckle and some you with upcharged if they measure your item off by a couple inches or a pound. There is no way of disputing the charge save for a call where they tell you to speak to eBay (and the label may be generated by eBay system but it is a FedEx service, especially home delivery which is spotty and a crime).
The only thing at this point is a class action lawsuit frankly. That is the reality as they continue to automate these upcharged and they get ridiculous, yes, we all as shippers have to just punish these companies and the only was is to either sue them for fraud, or stop using them.

Who have you been speaking with at eBay? I waste my time speaking to concierge agents at their homes who simply say I should measure and weigh the item more carefully! They sound like reos from FedEx, UPS or USPS. They never credit anything back as they are fighting for more profits for their stock price to go up. They send you to speak to the carrier who then claims it is eBay that's you must talk to. I just don't bother if the cost is under $5 even if the item bought is less than $10 and zi lose money in the transactions as the time and effort are not worth it. But as recent as today, with upcharged or $56 and $48 on $100 items, I have no choice but to fight and waste hours and days playing this game that I and all of us rarely win a refund for.

Unfortunately all the shippers are playing the same theft game with Pirateship and package monkey etc... best to avoid FedEx and take pictures of all your shipments sizes unfortunately.

Any updates? I just got hit with over $100 on two items and of course they tell you to pound sand. Would like to hear how you managed.

With their fake insurance (I actually received a letter from them after they shattered an item, the letter said they "respectfully decline to honor the insurance" as I packaged the item. Then When I used them to package a large delicate item they charged me an upcharge of $301 on a label I paid $19 for!) yes, we as shippers should sue all the carriers especially USPS the untouchable who denies any claim.
