I shipped two books today - media mail only option offered. No problem with one, but I was unable to generate a media mail label for the second. Item was listed as a book complete with ISBN . Only priority label was available - media mail with buyer selected was blanked out. In 20 plus years of selling books on eBay and the river, I have never had this happen.
Had to pay for media mail at the post office and come home and enter the tracking number.

In an awkward effort to reduce the abuse of Media Mail postage, eBay has been blocking sellers from purchasing MM for items that are sold in categories which are generally not eligible for it. So if you listed your book (complete with ISBN) in a category like sorting goods or collectibles, that's why eBay removed MM as a shipping option.
Instead of going to the PO, you can purchase your MM label through any other online postage seller. For PayPal labels, go to www.PayPal.com/shipnow .

Ugh, I hate it when I have to wait in line and look like I don't know what the internet is...

Many categories have a books or publications sub-category - not to mention an item specifics "type" where book was entered. If eBay is going to try and remove media mail as a shipping option - it should be done at time of listing - not after an item has sold and the buyer has paid media mail postage. I only offer one shipping option on books.

OK, only one shipping option on books.
Where is it written you have to buy labels through eBay? Since eBay labels are quite frequently messed up, I have a back up label provider so I am never "stuck."
Other Shippers/Label Providers
PayPal.com/shipnow
Stamps.com
PirateShip.com

I sometimes use Shippo as a backup. Labels are about 6 cents and I think they offer all the various shipping options.

The free service PirateShip is a superior solution. Just say it qualifies for media mail and you get the rate. PS is superior in every way to eBay shipping and only occasionally is higher priced on some flat rates; then I use eBay. THE BIG THING ABOUT PS IS THAT YOU CAN PAY VIA CREDIT CARD!! With eBay constantly chipping away at our profit margins, I like getting the 1.5% that my credit card gives back.
One click copies the tracking number to upload easily into eBay. You can copy/paste the buyer address into PS from eBay. Really easy and nice. Offers insurance, signature, etc.
