What happen if I refuse to pay custom fees for an item.

Hi, I'm in Canada and seller is in USA. The description didn't mentioned that I had to pay custom fees. Of course I was expecting to pay custom fees I'm not new at buying online. Paid the item 3875 USD and the custom fees are 745 CAD. I don't want to make any trouble to the seller but in this case paying that much custom fees for the item make it irrationaly expensive.

So if I refuse the item I don't mind not being refunded for seller's shipping cost and I'm also ok paying for the return cost cause I assume my part of responsability in this but is it that simple or is there something that can cause problem to me or the seller before I choose this option?

*item just arrived today at post office and I received a paper saying that I have to pay 745 $ in fees.

Thank you!

Re: What happen if I refuse to pay custom fees for an item.

If you are familar with buying internationally, why did the $745 fee come as a surprise?

Did the seller overstate the declared value?

or are you just having second thoughts?

Re: What happen if I refuse to pay custom fees for an item.

Not from US or canada here but where i am and working with USA buyers - if buyer does not pick up package it gets sent back and there are no return fees, item just goes back to the seller as post fails to deliver the item.

You can either wait till item goes back (whatever canada post deadline is) by not picking it up or try to refuse the package and it may get sent back sooner.

Depending on how much shipping was seller may fight you over that so just say that you are sorry and that you are going to cover shipping cost and everything should be okay.

Re: What happen if I refuse to pay custom fees for an item.

I wasn't expecting fees to be that high. I don't know if the seller overstated the declared value but I guess not cause he doesn't have a reason to do that.

But I never refused an item so far I've always paid custom fees. So my question was only to know if I can just refuse the item without causing trouble to the seller and avoiding trouble myself.

Just want to hear the experience of a seller or a buyer that have experienced this before.

ok good to know.

I don't mind covering all shipping cost.

I don't really want the seller to pay shipping for an item that I refused.

Yes, you opt yourself out of the MBG and quite possibly lose all your money and have nothing to show for it.

Pay your bills.

You refuse the package and you lose all buyer protection and the seller won't have to refund
