I have a “difficult” customer. Claims an order arrived late. They paid on a Saturday October 19th. I ship on the next business day, so it was shipped on the 21ST and arrived in Northern Michigan today. The 28th. They claim it was late.

They might be saying that it arrived after the estimated delivery date that ebay gave them. I don't think that you can see that date now that it has been delivered. You might want to mention that date is an estimate as they can't guarantee when the carrier will deliver it. Or something like that. Since you have free returns you might want to mention that you are happy to accept a return.

You might want to check your shipping preferences page to see if you have Saturday marked as a work day. I saw a Saturday delivery date on at least one of your listings. If you have it marked as a work day then that might make your estimated delivery date slightly shorter. https://www.ebay.com/ship/prf/cutoff

So, it was late? Happens. It did arrive, and was it what the customer ordered? What is the customer's point in telling you it was late...did he want compensation? The dates eBay gives are expected dates, not guaranteed dates

Late Metrics have nothing to do with late arrival.
As long as you validated tracking on time then eBay would not ding your metrics.
However, the buyer is free to complain the package is late and they are free to open a return for reason 'arrived late'
Large amount of my packages were late this week due to 'severe weather / emergency'.

You might want to block them from future sales.
