I've been using USPS pickup for a short time, and my usual mail carrier said he was going to change locations. I'm not sure how reliable this new one will be. If this person misses my pickup or does not show up by a certain time, would I be allowed to drive to the post office and drop the package off there? I heard the shipping labels are only good for 24 hours so I want to make sure they get mailed out as soon as possible if there is a problem with the pickup.

Yes and that is exactly what I would do if the carrier does not show up. While you are at the PO you might want to speak to the Carrier Supervisor or Post Master and explain the situation.

I've been using pickup since it's inception, and only five or six times in all those years has a pickup been missed. If I'm not able to take the packages to the PO, I call and they send someone out to pick them up if it's before 1600.

I think most of the post offices close at 5:00 PM or sooner, so if they don't show up by around 4:00PM, would that be a good time to bring them to the post office?

The only time my carrier missed a pick up I called the PO and they said yes they did not give the carrier the pickup slip that morning. I said well what are you going to do about it? THe Post master herself showed up to pick up the packages that afternoon.

Maybe OP you can do a test run by sending a small package to a relative? Get to know your new carrier and welcome them...then when everything seems good call your kin folk and ask for that package back..pronto!! 😆

I've had the same mail carried for 10+ years. Never had a problem.
Recently she left and has been replaced by different mail carriers. Now i have an on going problem with scheduled pick ups being missed. This is happening way too much, sometimes once a week. A while back i had 10 packages left behind on my front porch. I've written letters. I've spoken to my local postmaster. Nothing seems to be working.
I end up coming home from a long, hard day at work ... then having to drive the packages to our "main" post office at the airport which is open late.
I've come to the conclusion that these new mail carries are: LAZY or STUPID or BOTH.

Unfortunately not all pick up experiences are happy ones. I struggle constantly with skipped pick ups, skipped scans when packages are picked up, and packages lost when carrier drops packages back at local post office.
I recommend you keep close track of your pickup requests, what packages you sent every day and check that scans are done at pick up and that scans are uploaded. I also put a flyer in my mailbox to remind the carrier to pick up in case they didn't get the "pick up slip." Good luck.

Oh my goodness @ inHawaii I've never seen you write anything naughty about anyone! Paradise getting you down? Offer still stands to trade places? 😆

My mailbox is literally 10 feet away from my front porch. When they leave packages behind it really **bleep** me off! I come home from a hard days work, tired, hungry and cranky .... then i have to drive my packages 20 miles to the main post office because someone was too lazy to walk 10 feet!

Have you tried filing an official complaint?

I had issues with our previous carrier missing pickups multiple times. Once, when I took the packages to our post office (the closest/easiest to get to post office is actually NOT our post office), I mentioned at the counter that I had a pickup scheduled which was missed and the associate's attitude was like "what do you want me to do about it" (she actually said this).
What I found works is to file an official complaint with usps.com every time a pickup is missed. They pass it on to the local post office and it seems to be taken a little more seriously than just you talking to someone at the post office. In the end though, some carriers just don't care.
Now our new carrier drives by even when there is no pickup scheduled and once she even knocked on the door to see if I had anything.

Right now it is 12:52 PM here and my old carrier usually would arrive around 11:30 PM. I'm concerned if I drive down to my post office around 4:00 PM, the carrier might arrive sometime around after 4:00 PM. Would I get into any trouble if this occurs? I hope they won't cancel any future pickups.

There should be no trouble. Just once did I have the carrier come by after I had taken all the packages to the PO myself. I told him I could not risk it since the PO closed at 5. He said technically they could come until 5.30 (or 6, I forget which). I told him I just could not risk it. But obviously, if they did attempt to pick up, then don't file a complaint.
