Buyer would like to know if I would give them the difference between actual cost of shipping and what ebay shows on post.

How do you handle this? Do you give them the difference or no?

It depends.  Mostly no.

What I would tell them is that I get business rate shipping because I pay a monthly fee for my store.  Sometimes that discount pays for my store, sometimes it does not.  Also, the shipping discount is used to pay for the shipping supplies, bubble wrap, tape, boxes, etc, which is why I don't charge 'handling' fees.

Going forward, uncheck the box that asks if you want shipping paid shown on the label when you're paying.  Although, I'm not sure if you can uncheck the box if you're using the ebay standand envelope option.

Heck no!  It's called "Shipping and handling" for a reason.  Your buyer doesn't realize that you have to pay for packaging, ink, final value fee, etc. I would be tempted to put that buyer on my blocked-bidder list because they are sure to be trouble.

As far as actually replying, I'd stick to basics such as "Sorry, no."  Offering an explanation would just least to an argument.

What $$ amount are we talking?

Know that a $10 shipping label actually costs a seller $11.30 plus the box or envelope; plus the packing material; plus the tape; plus the paper; plus the in ink for the label.

I figure a $10 label cost me $5 in additional fees, box, packing materials and that means its FREE for me to actually pack it....in reality, I've YET to be able to teach an inanimate object to 'wrap itself up, jump in the box and tape itself up'....

You are correct. Maybe eBay should change shipping to: "S/H". I charge usually $4.95 shipping for bubble envelopes. Mailing out West for me is around $4-4.40 and with 13% seller fees, I'm lucky the $4.95 covers the whole amount. Some buyers are delusional.

They do call it "Shipping and handling" right in the listing, twice.

"Dear Buyer:  You will notice that the charge to you for shipping is actually titled "Shipping & Handling".

There are quite a few other costs involved besides the amount that is paid to the carrier.

Packaging is one example of that.  Tape, etc are not free."

First I would quickly review the cost in question as there is a mild possibility I may have overcharged, if so the answer is yes.

Otherwise...

Did the buyer already pay?
If no, I would likely ignore the message mostly because it's not going to do much good.

If yes, I would do my best to explain in a very short and polite way that sorry but no.
