Sold an item, shipping listed as 2.11 ebay wants to charge me 3.96 for a label **bleep**

I listed an USB cable for $2.00 with $2.11 as the shipping cost suggested by the system. I sold the item got 2.11 for shipping. Go to buy the label and it is MAGICALLY $3.96 **bleep**????????? Really? It's a **bleep** bubble envelope that weighs 4 ounces. How the hell did shipping just double on me? Should I just void the sale? I'm not paying more than what  I got to ship this **bleep** item.

Why is there so many **bleep** bugs in the seller interface?????  Can I trust any of the shipping prices Ebay quotes me? I'm trying to sell extra stuff not go into debt Seriously **bleep**?

It showed it right in the interface. "large envelope"

$2.11 is the correct postage cost for a 4-ounce flat (AKA Large envelope), and $3.96 is the postage cost to ship a 4-ounce package to Zone 4 via Ground Advantage.

eBay only sells postage labels for packages, probably because only packages come with tracking. If your item is eligible to be shipped at USPS's "Large envelope" rates, then you can mail it at the Post Office or just put stamps on it.

Looks like the whole Ebay shipping system is **bleep**!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! . I had chosen large envelope from the list of options for shipping. It showed 2.11.  Why did it magically jump to $3.96? I cancelled the order and removed all other items I had listed that were to ship in envelopes. GREAT JOB EBAY YOU ARE DOING A BANG UP JOB THERE WITH YOUR GARABAGE INTERFACE FULL OF BUGS. SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like you chose the wrong 'original' shipping type- so NOT eBay's fault- as NOTHING ships for $2.11; anywhere, anytime.

You chose a "1st Class Envelope" which is for a Letter.

For a 'package', you would choose 1st Class PACKAGE (which is NOW Ground Advantage).

Was YOUR error.

How do I miss choose an option that says "Large enveolope" and has the price with it? Then it also shows the price in the interface of my selling page? If the option should not have been an option then why was it an option in the list? Got an explanation for that? It's not like I can force the system to add things.

It showed it right in the interface. "large envelope"

It didn't say first class envelope it said "large envelope" is that not what a large bubble mailer is? Does no one use those to sell anything on ebay? I have a hard time believing that. What is the magical options to choose to be able to sell stuff and ship in large envelope mailers? It doesn't appear that is an option anywhere in the shipping options.

You can provide that option, but you can't buy a shipping label for it.

The service you chose for the listing, you can ship with stamps.

That is just stupid beyond stupid. I entered the size and weight and it gives me an option, but somehow I'm supposed to magically know that option is wrong? Care to elaborate on how that should work?  The whole interface is stupid. If options are wrong, don't offer them. Don't surprise a seller by allowing them to choose an option that shows one price then double it when they go to print the label.

I was going to sell a bunch of books, but I'm not going to go buy a bunch of boxes because there seems to be no options to use anything but boxes. What would the options be to enter if someone wanted to ship books using bubble mailers? What boxes are others ticking to sell a book for $3.99 with free shipping when  I am quoted $4.87 for shipping for a book? Why would someone be expected to be some sort of ebay wizard who knows all of the buttons to push like it is some 1990's nintendo game? I just want to sell some junk instead of taking it to goodwill, that is what Ebay used to be for.  Is there some sort of page all about shipping  I need to read? Something that explains the terrible shipping interface?

Thanks. if i do that how do I inform ebay the item has been shipped? All I see is "print label". There appears to be too many interfaces and links at least in the desktop version its a mess of pages and links.

The options are not wrong, you just chose the wrong option.

Ebay doesn't know how you are planning on shipping, so they give a seller a bunch of options to choose, but some of those options, you can't buy shipping labels for on Ebay.

Just like when USPS offered Retail Ground, you can offer it, but you had to buy the shipping labels at the PO counter.

If you use a bubble mailer, you select the package option, if you want to have tracking.

I'm not sure if there's a page that explains all the shipping options are not?

Whether in a box or envelope, any piece that is (1) rigid and/or (2) over 3/4 inch thick, is considered a package (rather than a large envelope) according to USPS criteria.

Sellers who charge $3.99 to mail a book are probably subsidizing the postage rate (though not a much as a seller who offers "Free" shipping), or perhaps large sellers have bulk rates with USPS that aren't available to lower-volume sellers.

@rjblg10

First of all, bubble mailers are NOT considered to be "large envelopes," according to USPS, due to the manner in which they are constructed:  USPS considers bubble mailers to be packages, while envelopes are flat (no bubbles or internal packing).

Secondly, once the seller has delivered the item to the post office, and received an "acceptance scan" for tracking purposes (either at the USPS counter, or at the 24 hour kiosks in many post office lobbies), that information is electronically sent automatically to eBay.  However, if the seller does not purchase their postage directly through eBay, the seller will need to manually enter the USPS Tracking number themselves, on the "Orders" section, below the item which had been sold, where it reads "+Add tracking."

Finally -- you can ship books at USPS Media rate in boxes, or bubble mailers, or envelopes, or whatever -- and the cost is the same at the post office as it is on eBay.  And, as you have already discovered, there are several huge bulk booksellers whose inventory was purchased sometimes for pennies, who can offer their buyers free shipping -- which most of us l'il guys cannot afford.

Certainly it is complicated -- and it was less so back when I started selling by mail in 1965.

But that's life.  One learns, and adapts.

@rjblg10

Even if you had been able to purchase the "large envelope" postage for your "Ativa USB 2.0 Extension Printer Cable 6 ft. USB 2.0 A/B Cable," you (or worse, your buyer) would have been charged for the postage due.

Flats (envelopes) cannot be more than .25" thick and your item in the bubble mailer is probably 3/4" to 1" thick.

Items > .25"thickness  are parcels, not letters/flats.

This is your mistake, not ebay's.

Ok thanks. So the sellers offering free shipping and selling the book for less than what I can pay for shipping have special shipping deals with USPS.  Looks like a bunch of boxes of books are going to goodwill. I just wanted to sell them not go into debt buying boxes and packing material and paying for shipping.  I can't compete with them so I won't try.  These are old programming books, not sure anyone even wants them.

I wish the interface was more clear for when you want to use a large envelope, like tell you that you need to put that stamps on it or something. I won't be messing with that.
