Want to return item for a refund but the item isnt in my possesion.

I want to refund an item i brought as I no longer need it, yet ebay asks me to ship the item back. As stated in the title the item isnt in my profession, any help?

As a seller there is no way I would ever issue a refund without getting it back.  Unless you can round it up your are basically out of luck.

You have to first have an item in your possession before you can return it.   If the item is still on its way to you, don't close out the return because eBay only allows you to open up one return request per item ... just wait until it arrives and then complete the return process.

What is the item and where is it now? 

You want a refund but want to keep the item?   That doesn't make sense for the business of any seller or the integrity of yourself and your personal business.  Get it back from whoever you gave it to or wherever you left it or whatever you did to it.

I didn't think of that one, still in the mail.   

If that's the case you can refuse delivery and then only be out the original shipping.  Otherwise you'll have to pay to ship it back and loose the original shipping.  If you don't need it maybe you can give it away or sell it.  That's what I do with extra stuff.

If buyer refuses the item, eBay says buyer loses all protection, and seller does not have to issue a refund for the item.

Does not have to does not mean won't or can't. 

As a seller I would refund, most people want to do the right thing.

As a seller I would not refund until I got the package back and was sure it was the correct item and not damaged.  These days the PO is very slow about returning refused packages.  After receiving it I would not refund the cost of my eBay fees or the money I spent for postage & handling.

If you are unable to comply with ebay's demand that the item be returned for refund, best for you to abandon hope & simply move on.
