Using own postage / getting tracking #

Hello,

I have quite a few stamps that I was given. Can I use my own postage, handwrite the address, then bring that to a USPS and purchase a tracking number? I do know the postage amount would be higher. Any downsides other possibly writing the name/address incorrectly?

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

There was an option to use Label 400 for precisely such purpose. It was however discontinued sometimes this year. It was replaced with Form 888, but it is only available for commercial customers. Because of that, you need go to your post office and ask them. I would guess that you should be able to pay for any mail piece with stamps at the retail counter.

Of course if  you were 'given' Forever Stamps- be careful they are not counterfeit.
