I am so annoyed with Ebay right now I could scream! I got an email from them yesterday when I got home telling me a buyer wanted to return an item that they claim was damaged. They received this item on Dec. 28th and somehow have just realized it was damaged? I called Ebay and was informed that not only was the return authorized, a return label had already been sent. When I complained that I did not authorize any return and had only been informed a couple of hours ago, the response was "well you must have accidently clicked the button to authorize it". Huh? If something is damaged in shipping, that's between the buyer and the shipper, not me. This was a very heavy item and shipping was over $35.00 which I'm now stuck paying! It was a diorama of New York City, and I can't believe Ebay fell for this. It does no good to state in your terms what the refund policy is on your items, Ebay can step in and approve things without any input from you as the seller.

" If something is damaged in shipping, that's between the buyer and the shipper, not me. "
You don't seem to understand how eBay works.

What does the "Here's what happened" --
bottom half of your case details page say?

If the item was damaged in shipping it's still your responsibility. You would either have to pay to return or refund without a return. Fighting it likely would not have worked in your favor. A case can be filed up to 30 days after delivery

The buyer claims that the front end and sides are damaged, but my photos clearly showed all 4 sides with no damage. This was wrapped first in white paper, then triple wrapped in the large bubble type of bubble wrap, and was mailed the 22nd of Dec. and received on the 28th. I've always been meticulous about how things were wrapped and if the shipper caused the damage all the buyer had to do was file a claim with them. And, if it arrived damaged why did it take 18 days to notice it? My main complaint is that Ebay did not give me the opportunity to even contact the buyer before they approved the return.

" if the shipper caused the damage all the buyer had to do was file a claim with them."
The buyer has eBay's Money Back Guarantee, so they don't have to waste their time with an insurance claim.

Again, my biggest complaint is not being given the opportunity to contact the buyer before Ebay took over. I don't see what the big rush was, it was only an hour or two from the time I saw the email late yesterday and when customer service told me the return label had already been sent and could not be unsent. My impression was that if someone had a problem Ebay would give me the option first to work things out. If the buyer had included photos maybe I would have refunded them and simply told them to dispose of the item to avoid the high return shipping cost.

Nope.
" If the buyer had included photos maybe I would have refunded them and simply told them to dispose of the item to avoid the high return shipping cost."
You can still do that.

Return shipping label can not be "unsent" according to customer service. They sent it to buyer before I even had the chance to contact them.

You don't pay for the label unless it is used.
