I purchased a widget 2 weeks ago and the seller uploaded tracking the next day. He didn't buy the label from ebay or paypal but purchased it electronically. USPS, up until today, had NO record of the tracking number. When it didn't arrive a couple days after the ETA, USPS still said no record, and the seller stayed silent, I filed an INR. That was 2 days ago. Today, I received the item and, as of today USPS shows on a delivery scan on the tracking page. The widget was shipped media mail. I was just wondering if this is normal? I've had packages I shipped that showed no tracking until it reached the buyers city. But never, as a buyer or a seller, have had I had tracking with a delivery scan only. And adding to this odd situation, the seller never responded to my INR. I closed it obviously. Is it because the seller used media mail?

I've seen it happen. I've had a couple of FCM packages show nothing at all until a delivery scan. I've also seen packages of all sorts show absolutely nothing - no acceptance, no in transit, nothing - until the final delivery, and all the other scans would show up at that time with the delivery scan, with time lines that made sense.
Who knows why lol

At this time of year, there is no "normal" for any of the carriers. Volume is up significantl this year and they are all overwhelmed. I recently received a package that got no scans at all for 10 days after the label was printed, then suddenly showed a scan at the nearby sorting center.
FedEx and UPS have much stricter expectations for scans. USPS staff probably just skip them when they're too busy, since the only scan that is promised by USPS is the actual delivery scan.

It's neither common or uncommon. And yes it could be because of it being Media Mail. Media Mail can be held up at any location to make room for higher classes of mail. This often happens this time of year and when the item is coming from, going to or even going through area of trouble like the fires on the west coast now.
While it can be unnerving if it is something you really need or want, who should worry is the seller as that delivery scan is what is important for their protection.
Please express my gratitude to whoever you have on the thin blue line.

Thank you all for the helpful replies! I've never had a package with a delivery scam only. It peaked my interest because this could have been very bad for the seller! If it had arrived after I won the case, I would have repaid him immediately but he would have been penalized by eBay on his shipping metrics and had it been another buyer, he might not have been repaid or received the item back! I hope this doesn't happen to offen, it's definitely a very bad thing for eBay sellers!

Tough deal for the sellers when scans do not get done, or are done and float off into cyberspace.
We ran into that situation back in May when the carrier scanner went bad either from an update, or just quit.
My carrier is very good on scans. For 3 days my outgoings did not get uploaded until they arrived at the distribution facility. I had an incoming return that was delivered to me and never updated on eBay. I got the item. I know it was scanned. I watched the carrier do the rescan the day after the initial scan. It still did not update. I refunded the buyer. I was fortunate that I caught the problem quickly.
I spent my money on gas to take packages to a Post Office while waiting for the OIC responsible for the offices affected to correct the acceptance/delivery scan issue.
For nearly 3 weeks the scans for acceptance/delivery failed. The acceptance scans for all the customers affected by this were likely updated along the way, but hundreds of delivery scans were never updated.
My wife orders DVDs. She looked at the eBay purchase history to update her feedback for sellers, and told me she was missing one of the DVDs that she was suppoed to get. It did not show delivered.
I asked her which one. I looked it up on the list of failed delivey scans that I had forwarded to local USPS employees via email. It was on the list, and had arrived. She had already watched it, but thats a whole nother issue.
Feedback was appropriately left, but many sellers items were never given delivered scans.

Nothing that I can't live without--just a DVD set for my 10 year old--Jem & the Hologram the complete series 🙂
Jem is still around? I had no idea. I know she’ll enjoy the DVDs. Happy Holidays my friend! I’ve missed you & the others but now we are getting settled in the new house.

Hey Patricia! Yes she's kind of still around! They made a move a few years back (I didn't watch it, didn't look good and they didn't follow the original story line). I loved Jem as a kid and had bought the first season DVD when it came out in the early 2000's and my daughter loves it so I decided to pick up the complete series for her. Happy Holiday's to you too! The new house sounds lovely, glad to hear the move went well. I'll check in with you soon 🙂

I was interested in finding out if the item you purchased qualified to be shipped via Media Mail.

What does the label look like? Is it wrinkled, scuffed or in any way unscannable? If so then maybe no one else had the time to hand enter the numbers until delivery.

My daughter was really into Sailor Moon at that age.

I've had a number of items delivered without any scans and the label lookied fine. No idea how they missed at every point along the way.
I remember watching some of that show years ago on TV. That was when they were still using traditional animation. Now that so many (even older shows) have gone to CG animation, I can't watch them.
