USPS shipping cost went up Sunday, April 3, and eBay printed labels do not reflect the increase

I went to the Post Office to mail a sold golf club yesterday, 4/5. I had a preprinted eBay label costing $9.25. The Post  Mistress told me the rates had gone up on packages Sunday and that I would have to pay $15 more because the box was over 12”.

I didn’t pay it. I was able to cancel the label and will supposedly get a refund. I then shipped it UPS for $ 13.xx.

I will not be using USPS in future for boxes unless UPS and FedEx raise their prices to match. Hopefully, eBay will quickly fix postage to reflect the new rate.

1.) the fee is an added $4 for items over 22" and $15 for items over 30"- not 'over 12" as the clerk must've told you

2.) Was the dimensions inputted when printing the label?

3.) Was the label printed before 4/3? Because it's fixed now.....

I have the same questions that were posted above @gibson13126. If this is for the golf club you sold on April 5th, then my question would be whether you entered the correct package dimensions when purchasing the USPS label.

As announced October 2021, this was part of the January 2022 price changes but given a delayed application date of April 3, 2022.

There is a new “nonstandard fee” for packages that must be sorted manually by the USPS when the dimensions of the package exceed sortation requirements.

Packages with length over 22 inches will incur a $4.00 surcharge
Packages with length over 30 inches will incur $15.00 surcharge
Packages over 2 cubic feet will incur a $15.00 surcharge.

There is a $1.50 "noncompliance fee" for packages that are greater than one cubic foot or have a box length greater than 22 inches if the customer did not provide dimensions or provided inaccurate dimensions inside the online postage provider.

Yes, USPS will stack these surcharges where applicable. (Ex: over 22" and over 2 cubic feet and seller put wrong dimensions in the online label form - surcharge would be $4.00 + $15.00 + $1.50 for a total of $20.50)

Yes, these surcharges apply to the Priority branded triangular tube boxes.

No, the surcharge does not apply to the recently discontinued Large Flat Rate Board Game Box if you have any left in stock.

No, the surcharge does not apply to Media Mail.

Now that you have mentioned it. I don’t remember putting in dimensions and I can’t go back and check. I always do for USPS and UPS direct.  That aside I just wanted warn others who pay shipping to use UPS or FedEx or check their prices before shipping because they were about half the price of USPS for my 40” box.

eBay makes it very easy to cancel  a prepaid USPS label as long as it hasn’t been scanned. I have no complaints about eBay. But do about the USPS raising rates, but everyone has to make a living.

thanks for replies.

3. No printed it 4/5 and no problem with canceling it on eBay.
