Did you mean:

USPS is returning to sender after unclaimed package and buyer is requesting a return.

I sold a product with no issues. I offered free shipping. It cost me almost half of what they paid to ship it. I try to keep up with my packages so I check them frequently. I noticed the package had not been delivered and it said customer had requested it be held at the post office. Yesterday the customer requested a return stating the item was damaged. I asked for a picture of the damage because I knew I had packaged it well. While I was waiting on their response, I went back to tracking and saw that USPS had returned the package to sender due to it being unclaimed. When the buyer contacted me, they said they could not send me a picture because the post office had called them and said that the package was damaged and then ON THEIR OWN, had returned the package. I'm not believing their story about the post office. My question is, how do I handle this? I can't do a return because they don't have the product. Should I file a claim with eBay before they do? I have not gotten the package yet, but I highly doubt there is anything wrong with it. I know eBay usually sides with the buyer, but they are not being honest. It was at the post office for several days. I really don't want to be out so much money when it is their fault. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

USPS is returning to sender after unclaimed package and buyer is requesting a return.

The refusal in theory negates the eBay guarantee.

Of course the return of the package creates a problem as it is usually slower than going.

They filed an item not as described, well that is a problem.

Normal, you send a return label to them and when they ship you get tracking.

Not going to happen in this case.

Up to you how to handle this.

Maybe some one else can advise you.

I would myself just refund if the package is being returned.

Of course since you have the receipt of postage if it is damaged you can then file a claim with USPS.
