Ok ordered some items the other day, package was to arrive Tue, made it to within 40 miles of me here in California on Saturday everything looking good, then it decides to go across country to Philadelphia, then to New Jersey, I have Confirmed delivery with USPS and they say the package is supposed to come to me, but it is now currently in Limbo with no known delivery date, what should I do? the seller is not at fault, this is specifically a USPS problem, so what can I do? I go to post office and get run around that there is nothing they can do and Priority mail is no Guarantee of item being delivered in any time frame.

Fortunately what you described appears not to happen frequently.
It should make it's way back to the west coast for delivery, but unfortunately not very likely on a expedited basis.

Just sit tight and it will get there eventually. Assuming that it's got a clearly legible address on the outside, there's nowhere else it could be delivered, even if it gets temporarily misrouted along the way.
One other possibility is that it was not (yet) scanned coming out of its shipping container en route, and so tracking continues to follow the container itself, on the assumption that it must still be in there. As soon as there is a direct scan of the package anywhere, the tracking history will be updated.
You can sign up for text or emailed tracking updates from usps.com, too. Look up the tracking number history on the USPS site, and on its tracking results page, you will find a link near the bottom for notifications. The next time it is scanned anywhere on its travels, you will get an immediate notification.

File an online claim with the USPS under 'where is my package' at https://usps.force.com/emailus/s/ You just have to answer the questions they ask. In the block where you may leave a note, explain that since (whatever date) it shows it hasn't moved. The USPS will send an automatic email within a minute or two to acknowledge your claim. You should then receive an initial email with your local post office. Should they close the case without doing anything (you'd get an email saying the case is closed), go back to the link I gave and do it again. Then it will go to a different post office to investigate and something will be done. It may take several days.
I've had to open three different cases for myself recently where the Detroit office sat on my packages for days and days. So far I received two of the three and they had not mangled the packages and the labels were very readable. I just opened the third one yesterday. I've also opened cases for orders I've shipped to customers where I noticed a package became stuck in the system.

Maybe they are high, I have had problems with 2 packages so far.
This is the link I keep in my toolbar for senders of the package:
https://www.usps.com/help/missing-mail.htm
Filled out on Wednesday, I was sent an email on thursday morning.
A phone call from them Thursday late afternoon, and
Friday morning tracking finally updated
to show delivery that day. So it does work very well.
I just wish customers would notify me sooner...

Just sit tight, and wait. Misrouting is rare, but it happens from time to time ... the automated machinery kicked it into the wrong bin, or a postal worker tossed it into the wrong bin, and your package went on a cross-country adventure.
Typically, it gets identified within 24-48 hours and then put in a bin back to your region.
