Twice I have scheduled a pick-up for USPS to come to pick up an item that I was returning and twice they have failed to pick it up without any alert. They were first supposed to pick it up at my mailbox and then my doorstep, but did not. The return is set to close now since the item wasn't returned in time.
Do I have any recourse in this matter or is it a done deal?

Can you take it to the post office yourself?? Did you call the postal supervisor and let her know the item was not picked up after being scheduled?? Let your seller know what happened. Ultimately it is up to you to get the return shipped in a timely manner.

Ultimately it is up to me, but why have a service if they can't execute it. I couldn't get to the Post office 10 blocks away due to my crazy work hours. Postal service sent me an email that they successfully picked up my package, which they didn't.

When a substitute carrier failed to pick up my outgoing scheduled packages, I called the local post office to let them know. Shortly, a carrier arrived to get them. It was about a 20 mile round trip for their error.
It is up to you to get the item shipped back. The one not at fault is the seller, so not sure what they will do if you miss the return date.

My only other suggestion is, do you have mail pick up at your place of employment? I myself would not trust having a pkg set for p/u - too many things could go wrong so I always bring pkgs/mail to the local PO in the next town.

When you called and talked to the local Postmaster about this, what was his reply?
