Well that is one way to deal with backed up mail...... Crazy times.

This not the first time something like this has happened. I remember reading a story about bagged mail being found underneath a bridge. This was many years ago.

With no overtime allowed it is difficult to complete the route with the increased quantity of packages being sent. Some must improvise.
Carrier in this area regularly delivered the bulk mail to a dumpster in years past to lighten his load.

I can understand dumping the catalogs and advertising; it's mostly a loss leader for the USPS anyhow, and I wouldn't mind fewer advertisements for jewelry auctions and aftermarket car warranties (one step removed from SPAM, as far as I'm concerned.) However, I would deliver them last, once I delivered anything that had paid full postage.

The insanity with USPS has caused me to switch to FED EX. AND even with this switch I am encountering unforeseen problems like people who have their mailing addresses as PO BOXES. I am shipping FED EX express 2 day only. FED EX has Smart Post where the last leg of the delivery is handed over to USPS to get to the PO BOX, but NO WAY am I trusting that hand off to them right now. I have to now either cancel orders and have people repurchase with their home address.

Are you showing in your listings that you are shipping FED EX? I see so many listings that just show Economy or Standard or Priority and never show a mail class that as a buyer I would have no idea which of my addresses to give the seller. I have a PO Box for my USPS mail because I get no mail delivery at my house. If seller uses UPS or FedEX they need to say so and then I know which address to give them. I prefer UPS over FedEX ... in all my years of buying stuff FedEX has never delivered my packages to the correct address so I avoid them if possible. I once got a $60.00 credit from WalMart because FedEx delivered my computer to the wrong address and I had to go there and pick it up.

Were they bags of mail-in ballots?

Wow, that is so sad and it gives many a hard working USPS employee a bad reputation. Makes one wonder, did they only dump the envelopes and kept the boxes with promising contents? These people committed a crime and I hope they will be caught.

Most likely they will get caught.
Just think of those transfer locations with back up and what that trash dumpster out back might be being used for...
Yes it smears the USPS and its employees. A bad thing.

What a bunch of idiots... and in a rental truck, too. You can see all the tracking barcodes on the packages, plus at least one goof staring at the parking lot surveillance camera. ("Ooops...") It won't take long to find these knuckleheads, simply by looking to see where all the package tracking histories converge.
You have to wonder how in the world they thought they would get away with it, especially by dumping it into an open business parking lot where it would almost certainly be found within just a few hours. Maybe they gave up trying to find enough Dumpsters to take it all. The report mentions one other dumping site already found; perhaps there are more to come.
