USPS Priority to Europe

Hello

I am experiencing what many hav already posted.  I sold a high value item to a buyer in Germany.  Item was shipped on 4/24; it finally left Chicago Customs on 5/24.  No update since then.  Buyer has opened a Item Not Received Inquiry.  How does this work since I'm certain this item will deliver at some point, but if eBay proceeds with a refund now and the item delivers a month later am I able to recoup my $?

I found this notice on the USPS site about International Shipments that I shared with the buyer.

Any thoughts on how this will likely to play out?  Should I call eBay Support and ask them to extend out the decision to force a refund...will they even do it?

Re: USPS Priority to Europe

You should call eBay and let them know of the situation especially since its a high valued item. Whenever I shipped international there usually was a long delay between the package leaving the USA to get to the destination but shouldn't be longer than 3 weeks without any scan. You should also call USPS or email them to figure out what happened to the package. I hope this helped!

Re: USPS Priority to Europe

If I were you, I would sign up for email updates on the tracking number on the USPS website. Sometimes that pushes a package through.  I would also file an online insurance claim with USPS.

Germany is a delcon country, so the tracking should show when it delivers.

I would ask eBay if you pay out now can you appeal should it deliver in the future. Most of the time, with item not received claims you are the buyer's mercy for them to repay if they receive it. If you ask for an extension, eBay will likely provide but it may not be long enough for the item to deliver.

Re: USPS Priority to Europe

With the current state of international shipping owing to the effects of the pandemic, I would caution against offering international shipping.  Of course, the choice is yours, OP.  Good Luck!

Re: USPS Priority to Europe

Int'l Priority mail is automatically insured up to $100 (I think that's the limit, easy to verify). Did you insure the package via private insurer? If the total insured value was more than $100, let's say $300, you need to claim $100 from USPS and the private insurer will pay you the rest, i.e. $200. If you did not insure it and it is lost, you can only reclaim $100 from USP. Then you can only hope that your buyer is honest and will repay you when they receive the order.

It is not a bad idea to call ebay and ask them to extend the deadline. What was the deadline they gave you to resolve the case (before they get involved?)
