USPS Pick up

Lately, when I put packages out by my front door and request a pick up on the USPS site,

the letter carrier (or someone) is NOT picking up the packages, but sending an email confirming the packages have been picked up. Happened three times out of the last four requests. Aggravating, especially with gas prices and ebay wanting sellers to ship out quickly. Anybody else have this problem and how was it resolved? I sent a message to the USPS but no response or change.

Re: USPS Pick up

Yes, this used to happen to me periodically.  It rarely does, now.

When it first happened, after I made a pick up appt, I would also write a note to the delivery person to pick up items/pkgs, etc at my front door, tape it inside my mailbox so s/he is sure to see it, and make sure the mailbox flag is up. Because I'm home, I was  on the look out for the pick up. Then I ran out and had a nice talk w/ my carrier.

It seems that when a pick up appt is made, someone collects all the pick up sheets from the computer, and puts each one in the specific carriers mailbox. Sometimes, that doesn't happen.  My carrier said most carriers know eBay sellers get dinged if their pkgs aren't picked up and mailed out w/in the specific time frame. He advised me to go to the PO and talk w/ the head person there (I forget what they're called...?manager?) and keep calling, if necessary. Get the direct telephone line and keep complaining.    However, we have another system, and it was his suggestion.  I make the online appt for pick up, then in the  morning, I text my carrier "Gm. Plz pick up pkgs at front door of (address) today (day, date). Ty."  I get specific because if he's off, he forwards  the text to the replacement carrier. He said he gives his # to all the ebay sellers on his route.

What the carriers don't really like, is to make a stop at the mailbox, only to get a note.   They lose time stopping at mailbox, and they still have to go to pick up point.

But talk to your carrier.  I've had 3-4 different carriers over the years, and we've always worked something out.   Btw, yes, I do give my carrier a Christmas gift...I appreciate the times he drives down my long driveway to get my pkgs.

Hope this helps

Re: USPS Pick up

I agree with the advice buried in the other post: Go to your local Post Office and talk to your Postmaster, in person.

Re: USPS Pick up

Why not start with personal direct contact with your local USPS Postmaster?
