Last year in Mid December I shipped package to Portland Oregon. The tracking on this package was a mess showing that it arrived there and then showing it was still in Los Angeles and then back again to Portland. After that it never updated and I did a missing mail search. USPS closed the case the next day stating it was resolved only nothing has been done so I reopened the search. Afterwards I would get messages from USPS sporadically stating they were still looking. Meanwhile after 60 days had gone by I surmised that my buyer must have received their package because they never opened a claim. It just shows that the postal carrier never did the delivery scan.
Today I get a email from USPS stating they were closing the case. They advised me that to assure my packages reach their destination that I should put my return address on the package and include a label in the package with my complete name and address.
What I have seen this past year is that USPS closes these case without following through. Fortunately all my packages did get delivered although late.
Don’t you just love how they blame the sender for their mistakes as the sellers return address is one the label and my packages have invoices in them with all my information. I believe we all know that USPS deliveries in the past year have been the worst in history

I opened a missing mail search last week and the lady at the buyers post office was very helpful. She contacted the distribution center where the last scan took place, but no one there ever responded to her e-mails. She was so excited today in her e-mail when the missing package finally reached her post office. I think they try to help, but when you are dealing with millions of packages/mail a day I can understand that there is only so much they can do.

You want them to find it, file for the insurance claim. Either they find it or they find it's gone and you get not only the insurance value but also the postage back.
I did this in one instance several years ago when the buyer did not respond and the tracking stopped updating with no delivery scan. They paid me out and then like a month later I hear from the buyer "oh yes I got it just fine thanks" ... well, okay, the USPS just burned themselves I guess. I have no idea how you'd go and say "you shouldn't have paid me out, here's the money back"
