USPS Lost Return Package and updated status to Delivered few days later

So buyer send back a return and it was on the way to my place.

04.13 - Out for Delivery, it was late, got Alert message that it will be delivered next day.

04.14 - Status "Updated Delivery Scan"

04.15 - Status "Package Research Created" - I didn't do this

04.16 - Status "Package Research Closed" - Ok, waiting for the package.

04.17 - Status updated to delivered with date "04.13" and USPS website forgot about all that "Alerts", but I still have a eBay screenhot.

eBay already forced me to refund the buyer (lost $870), so my question is what is actually happens? How that "Delivery" was updated? What is going on at all? Is there any chance to find a package? Tomorrow will go to post office to figure out, but may be any advices?

USPS has GPS capability to determine if a package has been delivered and exactly where.

Take your info to the post office and ask to be helped by the postmaster.  I've never seen that package research indication, so be sure and ask the postmaster exactly what that means.

The strangest thing that "Delivered on 04.13" status appeared only on 04.17, it wasn't there before, there was an alert message, etc.

Also requested signature confirmation form, received this scribble:

At this point, should I file a police report? I don't know, did they just lost it and tried to hide or stole, but I need to do at least something.

Does this signature even come even remotely close to the name on the address label?  What a hen-scratching. 

And this is a service you pay extra for, so be sure to bring this up with your postmaster.
