Hello! Unfortunately, it appears an item that I have sold is missing, and am looking to file an insurance claim (through the USPS website). I suppose this may be a stupid question, but this is the first time I've ever had to do this, so I just want to be absolutely accurate when filing the claim. On a side note, I am blessed to have a patient and understanding customer through this whole ordeal. The item was fully insured (at my expense), for $750.00, and sent via Priority Mail. The item was sent August 8th, and two days later (August 10th), was shown as "Processed" at the Columbus (OH) Distribution Center (which I may add is less than 15 minutes from my customer's house; I'm from PA). At this point, there has been no movement. I filed a "Missing Mail" search 6 days after the tracking has stalled (August 16th). It is now the 24th, with no updates. According to the USPS guidelines, I have fallen in the eligible time frame to file for an insurance claim (15 days after mailing date/receipt). They require a physical copy of the acceptance receipt (which I DO have). They also require additional paperwork/information proving the insurance value is accurate. Will the Order Details/Sales Record provided by eBay provide enough proof/information of the actual insurance value? The Order Details show the item selling for the $750.00, the buyer's address, and the tracking number w/ my actual postage cost. Also, although arbitrary, I prided myself on packing this fragile item, and sent the buyer pictures of the item being packaged, step by step, so I even have physical pictures of packing the item (again, may carry no weight in the claim, but just want to double-check if it would provide me some leverage).
This is about all I've got. If there is any advice or past experience from other members on here, I'd love to hear it. This is a most unfortunate scenario for both the buyer and I. The buyer is obviously not expected to pay this or be responsible, but this is a great deal of money for me, and with recent automobile repairs and other piling expenses, this will hurt me. So, any help or advice to guide me through this a little more confidently will be greatly appreciated!
Regards
Matt

If it is lost, you need to refund the buyer and work with USPS.
Those photos you took won't do any good.

Hello! I understand that. Just in regards to the concern about the order details/forums, should those provide enough proof/evidence of value?

Matt

From what I've been reading here, the order details don''t seem to work with a USPS claim.

This is concerning. My order details show the amount I paid for postage, however, no signs of anything beyond that. I can only assume that, on the USPS' end, upon entering the tracking number/information, it will provide a breakdown of the addresses, insurance amount, etc. I printed a label through eBay, I did not physically pay for this at the post office. I do have the physical receipt for the acceptance scan, but this provides no evidence of any form of content value. I do know that, according to the USPS website, they make it clear that an actual receipt from the post office is required, which I have. I hope this will be enough to progress, and hopefully have a favorable outcome in the case? Otherwise, I honestly do not see the point of insuring an item if I am ultimately incapable of providing proof of value, which seems to be required. But I could be wrong, and am here to be educated!
