I have packages that have been dropped off 4 days ago with no scans! I have my receipt with tracking numbers that I dropped off to postal center but have not been scanned at all! Whats going on?

Should not have dropped them off w/o a scan receipt. The current state of USPS is work apathy. Unlike any other carrier, they seem to think tracking doesn't matter for them. Need them to lose a few class action lawsuits.

If you have a scan receipt then your packages were scanned.
If you don't see tracking updating as accepted or in transit you may want to go back to the post office with your scan receipt to find out what the problem may be.

If you stood in line and received a receipt from a postal worker there is no reason that there is no scans.
When you look at tracking does it show that the post office has them?

It happened to me on Saturday. Dropped packages off with a receipt of the tracking number "accepted" on the receipt. Four of the five packages showed. The fifth package showed no scan until I called the national post office number on Monday. They let me start a case early because I explained them that I was an ebay seller and if a scan did not show "USPS in possession of item" by end of day Monday, I would get a "ding" on my ebay account. A very nice lady from the local post office called me and agreed to manually enter my tracking number that day which showed "USPS in possession of item". So, if there are any mentors on here or any other expert, I would stop conveying about standing in line waiting for a receipt as we now have at least two people that this has happened to in the last week. And if you do convey standing in line waiting for a receipt, then I would suggest you better still check the tracking when you get home to ensure there is a scan. Thank you.

They have been getting very lax with scanning. And it's getting worse.

I have a package that was shipped on Feb 27 and has been "in transit" since March 3. No amount of going to the PO or submitting a service request or a missing mail search request has made any difference. I even requested my congressman's office to look into it. Nada. It's outrageous.

It happens to me too, when my mail person is off and it's someone else, I shipped 3 the other day with no tracking showing ,I called the post office up and complained thenext day all the tracking was there.

As long as you have acceptance receipt from USPS, they have actual possession & responsibility for them. They may not get scanned again all the way until delivery, which is horrible. But, that is current typical behavior (2+ years) from USPS now.

Unless I missed it, I have not read where those who experienced this state specifically that they stand in line and watch the postal clerk scan the packages. It would be interesting to know where the Sellers with this issue are located.
If they indeed do this then they need to ask at the counter what happens in the USPS system when that scan is taken at the counter with the hand held bar code scanner ... does the clerk have to press a button on their computer to actually enter it in the system for processing through their mainframe and sent to eBay via the API software between USPS and eBay.

Hello- I was in PA and the packages were scanned and I received a receipt and there was no tracking update for 1 of the 5 packages. The other 4 were okay. Thanks.

I have 2 in the wind. One incoming and one sent. I started missing mail searches on both.
The incoming was accepted at sender's post office in Iowa on Feb. 25. After the search request, it was located - in Alaska. I live in Washington. And since then (Mar. 9) in the wind again.
The sent was on Mar. 26 and I dropped it at the post office and got a receipt (ALWAYS GET A RECEIPT). Search started and still nothing. I refunded buyer's shipping, even though it isn't my fault.
The post office is really slacking!

When going to USPS with multiple packages, you need to generate a SCAN form ( Shipment Confirmation Acceptance Notices that allow you to group multiple labels into a single barcode, which lets USPS quickly scan in all your packages at once instead of one by one, which saves them a ton of time and can speed up your package's first tracking status updates. In mins. the tracking on each package will show " shipment received, acceptance pending" - this means that USPS has the package.
Later when your local PO processes and sorts your packages to travel to the next facility , tracking will show
" Accepted at USPS Origin Facility". eBay recognizes the first scan ( shipment received, acceptance pending) as proof of the first scan. Sometimes various PO let packages sit for a few days before processing them. Your receipt with the tracking numbers will not be recognized by eBay as proof of shipment and you could be penalized for not shipping on time. But if those same packages had a SCAN form generated, you would be okay even if your local PO didn't process them for a few days.
Also, why not schedule USPS to pick up packages from you. It's free ( if done at your reg. mail delivery time by your carrier) and available in most areas (on the USPS site you can fill out a pickup request and USPS will let you know if your address is eligible). You can leave the packages along with A SCAN form in a designated area of your choice or have your door bell rung if you're home. I leave mine in a locked parcel receptacle that to which my carrier has the code.
