USPS Insurance

Hello,

I selected USPS insurance when I created the shipping label for an item I sold. The label did not indicate that it was insured when I printed it out. Is this normal?

Thank you!

Re: USPS Insurance

What type of seller buys insurance?

Re: USPS Insurance

Maybe he bought priority mail that includes insurance and selected usps insurance because ebay shipping labels defaults to ship insurance instead. Ebay's default settings for shipping labels make no sense. Fedex labels defaults to express letter which virtually no one uses.

Re: USPS Insurance

In answer to your question, if you bought a priority postage label through ebay, it does not show as insured on the printed label. I can assure you that it is insured though, as I had one occasion where I had a claim that was paid by USPS insurance with no problem. Not having "insured" on the label probably makes it less likely that buyers will try to make false claims.

Yes, my label was a Priority Mail Label.

Re: USPS Insurance

General information:

You can plug the tracking number in at USPS.com and see the insurance info under "Product Information"

For PM where additional insurance (amounts over $50 or $100) was not purchased, it will just show a generic "up to $100" message, but it is insured. You and they can tell how much the base insurance is by the label rate: $50 for for ComBasPrice, and $100 for ComPlsPrice (with eBay labels you get the $100 if you are TRS or have 300+ sales/month).

The same thing can also be divined from the tracking number:
Digits 3-5 of the tracking number will be 055 if Priority Mail with included base insurance, 058 if insurance added over the free included base amount, 061 if added insurance to over $500 (if other services like sig conf, return receipt also added then completely different codes are used)

The label amount paid and origin zipcode can be decoded from the square payment IBIP barcode on the top right of the label (which is what USPS would do).
