USPS Increase Question?

It appears that the USPS if approved will have an increase possible as early as November 1st, 2018. Stamps will increase around 5 cents and Priority Mail shipments could increase by 5.9 %.

My question is will our ebay shipping charges to buyers that are paying shipping automatically be raised or will we have to do something on our end. My margins are to tight to absorb this type of increase. Should I start increasing my prices a little on Free shipping Items to help absorb the increase shipping cost??

Just wondering what to do here.

Dennis

As Grandpa always said. If you want to open a small business, just open a large one and wait awhile!!!!

Re: USPS Increase Question?

If you ship 1st class better look into it, it switching to a zone base rate, there's a couple post with the rate increases

In the past, eBay has always reflected the USPS price increases automatically, both in terms of postage charges and calculated shipping charges that may appear in a listing.  Keep in mind, there is always the (more than low) possibility that eBay's software will experience problems in the first week or so, resulting in incorrect charges.

Re: USPS Increase Question?

Where did you read that this could be implemented in November? Usually the changes are proposed in October and then implemented in mid-January.  Maybe they get voted on in November? There has to be some lead time for customers to incorporate the price changes into their operations.

eBay listings that have calculated shipping always promptly adjust to the new rates on the day that they go into effect.

Re: USPS Increase Question?

Yes, the rate increase will get approved - I cannot remember one ever being denied.

Yes, the shipping increase will automatically update for buyer paid shipping when the new rates are affective.

Free shipping items you will want to adjust your price to reflect the highest zone rate on the affective date or when you it is convenient for you. That you do not need to do until the rate increase is official and you will know the date of rollout as it will be broadcast nationwide either in the paper, local news, national news, & internet.

You'll hear a ton ofcrying about it - I hate it as much as anyone else - but...the plus side is you do get a somewhat discounted shipping cost...and... everyone else that ships has to pay it as well so the reality is it impacts your competition as much as it impacts you. Consumers will still buy online because...it stinks dealing with traffic driving across town for something 🙂

Cheers

Re: USPS Increase Question?

November is when they review & approve the rates. They don't take effect until January 27th.
