USPS First Class Calculation error overcharges buyer with weight" 1lb or less" and oz entry

Hi All,

Just saw one of my buyers charged for  incorrect shipping cost USPS 1lb - 15oz instead of just USPS first class shipping for 15oz.  So instead of 5.83 they were changed 9.30.

Checked the sold item by doing a "Sell Similar"  and help desk explained to me that the cost was calculated 1lb 15 oz because the Shipping weight first entry drop down box was "1lb or less" and I put 15oz on the second box.  This combo allow you to select "USPS first class" as shipping option to be presented as a selection to the buyer.

I asked help desk to report it as a bug.

I probably should have selected custom shipping with 0 lbs and 15 oz.

Hope that helps some of you out.

You can charge customers the retail rate or eBay's comercial rate. The retail rate is limited to 13 ounces while the commercial is limited to less than 15.999 ounces. If you have your ebay preferences set to the retail rate then 15 ounces would be bumped up to 1 pound Priority Mail.

You'll need to:

A. Leave your eBay settings as they are. Use a weight of 13 ounces for packages that actually weigh 14 or 15 ounces for creating the listing and then change weight when you print the label. 13 to (-) 15.999 packages all have the same commercial pricing of $5.53. This is the best way to go as customers are charged retail while you pay commercial - the difference helps to offset the 12.9% commission.

B. Reset your eBay setting to commercial pricing. You'll need to adjust your item prices upward to account for the 12.9% eBay / PayPal commission on shipping. This is the worst choice as you will have to adjust your item prices upward for the maximum possible shipping costs. Each time USPS changes it rates you will need to adjust item prices once again.

Once again customer support was wrong. As noted in the other post, this is not a glitch.

$9.30 is the postage cost to ship 1 pound to Zone 8.  It is not a price to ship 1 pound 15 ounces anyplace.

The shipping calculator can be set up to charge buyers either the retail price or the online (eBay label) rate.  Retail is the default, and retail is what your buyer was charged. The weight limit for retail pricing is 13 ounces. If you enter a weight above 13 ounces, there is no retail price, so eBay charges the buyer for Priority Mail, because that's what would happen if you were mailing that package at the Post Office counter.
