WASHINGTON – The United States Postal Service filed notice with the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) today of a temporary price change to take effect Oct. 18, 2020.
The planned temporary price adjustments are in response to increased expenses and heightened demand for online shopping package volume due to the coronavirus pandemic and expected holiday ecommerce. As a result of these changing market conditions, the Postal Service is planning a time-limited price increase on all commercial domestic competitive package volume from Oct. 18 until Dec. 27, 2020. Retail prices and international products will be unaffected.
The planned price increase would go into effect at 12:00AM Central on Oct.18, 2020 and remain in place until 12:00AM Central Dec. 27, 2020.
The planned prices, approved by the Governors of the Postal Service on August 6, would raise prices on its commercial domestic competitive parcels – Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, First-Class Package Service, Parcel Select, and Parcel Return Service. https://about.usps.com/newsroom/national-releases/2020/0814-usps-announces-temporary-price-increase....

As long as the post office offers me thousands of dollars in free boxes every year I can put up with a little nonsensical postal price elevation based on holiday demand. This clearly looks like another ploy of the current administration to screw with the more successful internet based companies such as AMAZON by raising postal rates "temporarily".
One simple solution is to stop using the internet for purchases for the next ten weeks. Refuse to buy anything other than gift cards that can be mailed along with a card for delivery before your preferred holiday of choice. After the first of the year when postal rates drop (if they do) ship your larger gifts.

As the link shows, this increase was announced last August. Summary: Prices for First Class packages will all go up 25 cents and Priority Mail 40 cents.

EBAY ANNOUNCEMENT:
We are happy to announce that eBay sellers who ship using eBay labels will not be subject to a residential peak surcharge from UPS and FedEx. This means that if you use eBay Labels, you will not pay the residential surcharges that both carriers have announced.
However, USPS surcharges remain in place across the board and will be in effect from October 18 to December 27, 2020. Those surcharges include:

So the prices will go back down for four (4) days?

USPS has new rates every year in late January. The proposed rates for 2021 would go into effect on January 24.

I think you meant four weeks. The price premium expires on December 27th and the yearly standard U.S. citizen please bend over postal increase happen on January 27th. It used to take me three months to adjust my postage rates on 1200 auctions. Since I downsized my store it will only take a month or so. Have to run and check the new rate charts for the first 16 ounces and the three standard flat rate boxes. Wear a mask in public and stay at least ten feet away from anyone who doesn't care about humanity enough to wear one for a few minutes at a time.

If you set up your listings with calculated shipping, the prices change automatically.
New rates always go into effect on a Sunday. The current rates went into effect on January 26, and next year's will go into effect on January 24.

I still cannot figure out why eBay doesn’t add these additional surcharges to calculated shipping during the peak season. They’re clearly aware of the situation.

They did. The new rates were reflected in the eBay shipping calculator on the day they went into effect.
