I ordered a rather large item last week. according to tracking it was delivered last Wednesday to my front door.
There are few problems with that. I'm signed up with UPS so I can get updates and leave delivery instructions. My instructions said to deliver to the back gate. The front gate is locked, so there is no way the driver could have delivered to the front door.
This isn't a small item that would be easy for a porch pirate to steal.
UPS told me that since it was a ground delivery they don't have exact gps of the delivery location, and that the driver says he didn't have to enter a gate to drop it at my house.
The seller says he dropshipped from Home Depot and to call them for a replacement. All I asked was that he call UPS and see if putting pressure from both buyer and seller could get them to figure it out and get my package to me.
My neighbors swear they don't have it and it's not something most folks would actually need (it's a large outdoor heater designed to heat unheated construction sites)
Any advice on how to proceed? I know I can't get my my money back, so how to I get UPS to actually take a missing package seriously?

You could put a charge-back on your credit card (if used through Paypal), if nothing else. Often a seller will suddenly be able to find information (or item) if deprived of payment.

@step22-51 - I agree your (fight) is with UPS and not the Seller. I had the same happen to me years back, the driver confused the pkgs as they both were about the same size. I did not realize it until after I dragged up the stairs and kept saying, "dern, this item is super heavy." I called UPS and was instructed to leave it as is, a driver will come and p/u (the next day) and will swap out the pkgs to their rightful owners. Hoping it works out for you.

UPS likely considers Home Depot or their vendor, as their customer.
You are the seller's customer.
I would suggest that you provide your seller with all the information you posses related to the misdelivery.
Strongly urge your seller to contact UPS and then also contact Home Depot.
Likely there was private or UPS insurance on the item delivery.

Do you have a common street address. Goggle map it in the near by town. See if the house looks like the one the driver described.

You say UPS has informed you they do not have GPS with an exact delivery location.
What location does GPS reveal?

File an Item Not Received complaint with eBay and you will get a full refund.
