I stopped using UPS awhile back because the projected cost and what I was actually charged ended up being insanely different numbers and never in my favor. I guess the problem was package size. I typically put in the dimensions printed on the bottom of the box (even boxes they gave me). Apparently, that was interior dimensions rather than exterior and the quarter inch difference could result in significant differences in price. Anyway, I see they are less expensive in many cases now and have been considering trying them again. Are they still sticking people for miniscule differences in measurements or are they behaving more rationally? Does anyone have any recent experiences using them?

I have not had any problems in the 7+ years I have been using UPS.
If it is right close to the half inch, I go to the next inch and enter that measurement.
If it is 6.05 lbs, I call it 7 lbs.
What I see the most here on the boards are problems with FedX issuing upcharges. Never had that happen with UPS, ever. I don't ship any Frankenstein looking boxes.

With the USPS issues over unexplained delays and loss's with their Ground Advantage, I Use Priority mail and UPS and FedEx ground . I have had number of USPS employees that recommended I avoid Ground Advantage during the holiday Session .

Cool story. I don't experience the delays you are referring to and have had a very positive experience with USPS Ground Advantage.

All carriers are "sticklers" on the dimensions. They all want the OD

Yes, they are. If the box bulges you need to add at least an inch.
