I sell IN GOOD FAITH on eBay, with 100% feedback, ZERO complaints against me, and this is how eBay repays a loyal customer of over 20 years! Unbelievable, I would have never believed eBay capable of this.
Very good conditioned dolls...
Very good conditioned dolls...I auctioned Monster High Matel dolls as used and not new. These dolls do not have any damage and are in very good used condition- were pictured
I have bought and sold on eBay for nearly twenty years, practically since its inception. After buyer wins auction, and after receiving, the seller, obviously due to some buyers remorse, complained that a couple of the dolls didn't sit up on their own. I thought this complaint is VERY UNREASONABLE and I do not agree with the buyer’s UNREASONABLE expectations. All other Monster high dolls in other seller’s auctions are displayed either laying down, leaning against walls or other objects, or on stands. They are never displayed free standing because these dolls DO NOT STAND FREELY. As far as their sitting, my daughter, who has played with (because they are used dolls) very gently, never had a complaint about their sitting. Quite frankly this is a ridiculous complaint. VERY UNREASONABLE as they are not sold as NEW.
Ebay sides with the buyers, issues a full refund, and I'll have to pay shipping.
Is this what eBay has come to?

Yes, eBay came to this many years ago.

This is exactly what eBay has become. Sad but undeniably true.
You as a small time seller are considered expendable. All the current eBay business model is concerned about is keeping buyers happy and taking their 10% cut of final price and shipping. "Seller protection" is simply non-existent and eBay will side with dishonest buyers and outright scammers 100% of the time. Buyers and scammers know this and are having a field day exploiting eBay's greed. The buyers/scammers always win, eBay takes their cut, and sellers are screwed.

There's still a lesson to be learned - even if its disappointment and that not all people act honorably.
Unfortunately your description was severely lacking any substantial information. The buyer can't hold the item their hands to see and touch it. You have to be their eyes, hands and sometimes nose for them.
The buyer disagreed with your description. You tried to fight them. You say they were unreasonable. They say your dolls had issues. eBay has a Money Back Guarantee. eBay isn't going to get involved in a he said/she said and declare one side the liar. Unless the buyer said "there's nothing wrong with them... I changed my mind" eBay simply isn't going to take sides. Since you wouldn't undo the transaction, they did it for you.
And I'm sorry to rub salt in an open wound but when you allow eBay to get involved and they decide in the buyer's favor, you also lose your selling fees.
If anything but the dolls you sent come back to you, come back to the boards and get some advice. You can file fraud reports.

eBay is not unjust. They have no way of knowing who is telling the truth. You never described these dolls as not sitting. eBay wants to keep buyers happy and coming back, so in a disagreement they take the buyer's side. The buyer was not happy with the dolls and returned them, and you have no choice in taking them back.
Don't play the poor victim here. You are not one. Not all sales work out, it is the nature of selling something that the buyer cannot handle before the purchase.

EBay has what is called SNAD claims. It as been around for a while. I and others have posted (my longest post was here back in Nov 2016) about how to fight and possibly win these cases. They can be won and yours sounds like one of the ones that could have been won however, you only have a short time span to do it and it sounds like your way past that point. I suggest you bone up on how to fight these fraudulent returns and learn the rules of eBay and PayPal. I'm sorry this happened to you. Hopefully you AT LEAST got your dolls returns.

THIS is the answer.
Lessons can be learned here. Lessons about theft, honesty and lying (along with life is not fair) and how it effects people (even if its done by a business or against a business (i.e. shoplifting)). I truly hope the OP gets the same dolls back as was sent.

And certainly don't tell your daughters that all you've tought them is wrong. It's not, you just ran into some hiccups as happens in life (and business). The internet just makes it a bit more common. We're all slowly adjusting to this.
Good luck~
