Tracking information does not match Scam

Here is my story; I purchased an item from a seller with 0 feedback. Item says delivered. Just not to me. Tracking number provided matches City only. Since the item was delivered it seems I lost the first case. Now under appeal.

I have contacted UPS about the provided tracking number and the delivery does not match my address or recipient name.  Something ebay is perfectly capable of doing digitally, just as I did. (customer.service@ups.com)   This is now a obvious scam using someone else's tracking number in the same town.  I now have to go and spend my time, if i have some to spare, in the narrow window of 6 days during business hours, file a police report in order to win an appeal?  I am guilty until I prove myself innocent.  I feel this is ridiculous and very discouraged from using ebay. There's my rant, thanks for reading

Notes about the sale and tracking:

Seller with 0 feedback

Item purchased weight is 2.77 lbs, tracking shows item at 32 lbs

Seller location, Illinois - Package origin California

actual shipper's name LIFE S ABUNDANCE not the same as the vendor

$500 value

And the date of the label. That proves it's not your item. You never need a police report or a letter (which you can forge) saying it's not your name and address on the label: The tracking already shows for all to see that another person got something for themselves.

Too late now, but instead of opening a case, you would have pointed that out to eBay on Facebook, and you'd have your refund. eBay is unlikely to own their error on appeal, as they would have to fork over $500 while your seller keeps your $500.

Instead @knul2021, contact PayPal 888-221-1161 or link on their site, and do the same: Point out the date the label was printed and the weight, all public information that's visible for several months. See this for how quickly PayPal solves this scam.

Re: Tracking information does not match Scam

Thanks. I have now started a claim with my bank (sigh). I will also contact the paypal number tomorrow. I deleted Facebook years ago 🙂 The fact that ebay is demanding for a police report before a refund is issued infuriates me! Lazy **bleep**.

A bank chargeback is golden: The "seller" will pay the full refund, all payment processing and final value fees, and a $20 chargeback settlement fine; way over the top than just refunding.

It wouldn't be for social media: Create a Facebook account solely to contact eBay, nothing more.

You don't need to contact PayPal now. When you file a chargeback, it opens a case at PayPal. And when you file at PayPal it shuts down any ongoing action (the appeal) at eBay. If you read recent posts, eBay is now refusing to refund out-of-pocket even after you get the police report which eBay demanded.

Re: Tracking information does not match Scam

I think I found one of these scams here  HERE

The seller has  0 rating

The seller just started an account less than 30 days ago

The seller is shipping via FedEx/Smart option which can fudge and confuse tracking numbers.

The seller has the 10 items listed at half what the average price is on eBay

Looks like a scam to me and I wonder if it can be reported before people get ripped off.  If a person was to purchase items like this are they protected or will they get their funds back?

That looks very similar to the scam listing I fell for. 0 feedback and a username with a - then numbers

Be careful!

Re: Tracking information does not match Scam

The shipping method they use is a source of long-term confusion meaning the ten people who have purchased these lights at half price and free shipping are likely being ripped off.  It would seem like eBay would have an algo to sniff these people out in 2021.  Meanwhile, the seller now has "over" ten and is up to about 7 grand in ripoffs by my math.  There are too many red flags in the listing for it to be legit.

Does anyone know if the bidders would get their funds back?

Re: Tracking information does not match Scam

It seems even I may have recently fallen for one of these, but the thing is that the destination of delivery of the tracking number provided isn't even anywhere close to what was originally on the order that I made, let alone the zip code.
I have messaged the seller once, will message again, and it will be a countdown from that point. If there is no response after a week, the seller gets the business end of the thermonuclear option.

That is silly @rlsengager stop talking to the seller. Just get your refund, sometimes within minutes.

Click "Contact eBay on Messenger" at Facebook here, and leave your name, email, zip code. Ask eBay to review the tracking, to get your refund.

Re: Tracking information does not match Scam

Unlike some trigger-happy people, I'd rather give the other user a chance to fix the problem rather than 'shoot first, ask questions later'.
The seller has mostly legitimate-looking listings, but mostly blurays and a few odds and ends and a decent feedback score; however on closer inspection, this user is either a mass buyer, or is an alt account of some megaseller, or perhaps only purchasing super cheap items in bulk via cart order, thus participating in feedback padding - literally more than 50-70% of the feedback is copypasted messages from a single seller, spread across 3 to 5 pages - and it probably does not stop there.
it's already DEFCON 2 at this point, so if there is no response after the specified time has passed, the gloves come off; full scorched earth, no regrets.
